The Learning Hours (How to Date a Douchebag #3)

OMG! How To Date A Douchebag: The Learning Hours is one of those books I will never forget. It was so good and had me glued to the pages while falling hopelessly in love with a very different kind of hero. Hands down… Rhett Rabideaux stole my heart in the first sentence of the book. He was so unexpected yet so charming and humble throughout the entire book. As a man, he won my respect. As a young male college student, he commanded my admiration. As an allstar wrestler, he demanded my team dedication and spirit. As an individual who was subject to hazing and bullying, he had my complete sympathy. How he handled the negativity was beyond commendable. He is the true definition of strength and fortitude. All these great individual qualities are enough to make the reader swoon but Sara Ney made Rhett all the more desirable with his sexy southern charm and mastery of the French language.

Rhett Rabideaux gave up everything to attend Iowa State on a wrestling scholarship in his junior year. Who does that? Only the fearless soul who’s willing to take a risk. What he didn’t count on was a team full of douchebags that treated him worst than dirt. He can tolerate the team hazing up to a point until it cost him over $400. When his teammates put posters of him up, which included his phone number, advertising to get him laid went beyond their normal douchery. It was downright humiliating. Now he’s dealing with texts from numerous women that make sexting look innocent. There’s one texter that catches his attention even though he wants to blow her off. Her snarky wit and the fact that no pictures are included seems safe enough to respond to until he finds out who he’s exchanging texts with.

It all started on a dare and the command of the magic 8 ball when Laurel decided to text Rhett as a joke. When his combative responses started burning up her phone she couldn’t do anything but engage in the battle. After a few days of texting and a simple phone conversation she’s beginning to see Rhett in a different light. The more she learns about him, the more she wants his undivided attention. The only problem is she lied about who she was and about her intentions in the beginning. Now she must come clean with the truth and her real identity because she wants Rhett Rabideaux more than any guy on campus.

Rhett and Laurel are opposites in every way. They shouldn’t belong together but they fit perfectly. It’s time to teach the meddling douchebags a lesson. Rhett Rabideaux will never fit into their club. He’s stands above them all.

Sara Ney delivered a unique romance that truly shows that love is a matter of the heart. Looks, money, and popularity don’t necessarily guarantee happiness. Actions speak louder than words. Matters of the heart follow their own beat.

I loved every moment of this book and fell hopelessly in love with Rhett Rabideaux!

I did not like this one. At. All.

Im actually heartbroken by how much I didnt like this novel. Because I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the first two novels in this series.

Everything about this novel rubbed me the wrong way. The writing, the wording, the characters, the plot. It was just all wrong. The writing was choppy and all over the place. The flow of writing was weird and confusing. There were odd words and phrases inserted into sentences, that made no sense. I found myself having to re-read previous pages because I became confused as to what was happening in the scene. There was way way too much conversation going on between the males in the story. Pointless conversations that stuffed the novel and didnt add any real meaning or value to the story. The humor was off the mark and no where near funny. Laurels character was one of the worst heroines Ive have read in a while. She was judgmental, b*tchy, snarky, materialistic, manipulative and shallow. Her character held no depth and no realism. I despise a prejudice person and I didnt like her from the jump. After Rhetts teammates dine and dash on him and leave him to pay a bill, something she watches happen, she chooses not to even think about offering him a ride back to the dorm simply because he was unattractive. Yes. She decided not to give a person left behind a ride because he was not handsome. She sits there and watches him standing around with no ride and laughs at him while calling him dumb. Fiction or not, I will never be okay reading a story about a person like that. And the plot only gets worst. She decides to make a bad situation worst and join in to prank him. The HEA does NOTHING to redeem these characters or the plot of the story. The ending did nothing for me either. Their love came across fake and weak. Even the love scenes were passion-less and flat.

Im assuming the authors goal was to make the heroine the douchbag this time around. But she failed miserably. Because all she managed to do was pen a really bad novel. And Im so shocked by that because again … book 1 and 2 was so amazing. It makes me wonder if the author used a ghost writer for the first two novels and wrote this one on her own. Because the stark contrast between not only the writing but the story itself was so different. I rarely write reviews especially negative ones but I cant believe how disappointing this novel was compared to its counterparts. Book 1 and 2 are in my favorites collection, but this was placed in my DNF collection. I kinda wanna unfollow this author as well. Sorry not sorry.

Rhett has transferred into Iowa due to his wrestling skill. His team mates are constantly pranking him and one such prank brings him to the attention of Laurel. What starts out as a prank from Laurel, becomes a fascination that leads to friendship! This book has the under dog as the hero, a guy who others and himself see as ugly. Laurel is a beautiful woman with long red hair that could have anyone! Her fascination with Rhett shows that she shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and that a person’s own insecurities shouldn’t reflect on others. The characters in this book were down to earth and their growth pulled you along, hoping that they got their HEA! A fantastic read that deserves more than 5 stars

Was I reading/listening to a different story to everyone else? Couldn’t get past the 1st couple of chapters and that never happens for me. The main female was reluctant to text the main man in case he was a stalker (didn’t take much to change her mind though) and then immediately turned into his stalker. The annoying texts she was sending made me actually want to cause physical harm to her on his behalf. She called it flirting. I wouldn’t. He tried to stop the onslaught many times and she wouldn’t take the hint. To add a bit of insult, the narrators sounded about 50 instead of being in college or whatever they are supposed to be in. Their voices grated on me. The woman’s impression of a man was ridiculous and akin to me trying to do a grumpy old man’s voice when I was a little kid. This probably made my experience of this book a bit jaded compared to someone reading it maybe. Disappointed.

I did enjoy this sporty College romance but it took me a good while to warm up to the heroine. This book turns the idea of the hero being the douchebag on its head. It’s Laurel, our heroine, who is not very likeable to start with. She does redeem herself in the end though.
Laurel is beautiful – absolutely drop dead gorgeous. She could have any guy she wants and she knows it. She’s popular and outgoing and she uses her good looks to her advantage. When she sees Rhett getting hazed by the rest of the wrestling squad she laughs at it all. When his face is plastered all over Campus asking for him to get laid, she texts him for a dare. I liked that Rhett treated her with polite ( and not so polite) disdain. She deserved it. She has to work to earn his affection and ultimately his heart and this girl wants his heart.

Rhett is a lovely hero. I wanted to wrap him up and protect him from all the nasty people who teased him. It went beyond teasing and he seemed so isolated at times. He just doesn’t get how appealing he is.

There isn’t too much angst in this story. It’s very much about Laurel and Rhett’s relationship. The chemistry between them is electric and there is some serious heat shimmering off of these pages.

HEA? Yes- probably more HFN.
Cheating? No- these two are totally about each other.
