The novel tells the story of America in the year 1962. It was a time when slavery in the country was legalized once again. A few of the Jews who were still surviving were then living under fake identities or assumed names. The I Ching in San Francisco is as common and regular as the Yellow Pages. It was all because of the time twenty years earlier when the USA lost a war. It is now occupied by Japan and Nazi Germany.
It is a Hugo Award-winning novel that established Philip as a top-quality science fiction writer. With this novel, he also earned the reputation of being a top-class innovator in the science fiction genre. He did a great job of breaking the long-standing barriers between serious book ideas and science fiction. The novel was successful, both critically and commercially. The book is interesting but you might feel that the plot is slightly complex to comprehend. Jeff Cummings deserves a full 10/10 for his performance in this novel which will lift your mood right away.
