The Ocean at the End of the Lane
A middle-aged man in Sussex, England makes a return to his first home for attending a funeral. He is drawn to the ranch that is by the end of the road. It was the place where he came across a very beautiful girl when he was just seven years old. Her name was Lettie Hempstock. He hasn’t thought anything about her for decades now. But, his unremembered past came back all of a sudden while he sits there by the pond. A man committed suicide 40 years ago in a stolen car which was parked at this farm.
His death resonated in some unthinkable ways just like a fuse would do on a firework. The darkness witnessed was scary and quite incomprehensible for the little boy then. Lettie promised to always protect him in any situation.
The Ocean at the End of the Lane is an intriguing novel at many levels. You will enjoy some weird and dark adventures along with a lot of memories shared by the author. The writing and narration by Gaiman are just outstanding.
