Although I usually feel satisfied when I reach the end of a Pat Mcintosh book, along the way I have been irritated by the pace of Gil Cunningham getting to his truth. But I do love the collection of characters as they have evolved as new books have appeared, and I find the handling of the relationship of Alys and Gil very appealing and refreshing. The use of the Scottish setting adds extra appeal for me, and the late medieval time frame is an era the novels have persuaded me to inquire into more thoroughly. Time spent in Gil Cunningham\’s world as projected by Mcintosh is enjoyable.

The Rough Collier audiobook in series Gil Cunningham

I enjoy the 15th century Glasgow setting. The detail is instructive. I\’ve read the prior books in the series also. However, these are long, slow books that cover the same ground numerous times. Sometimes I\’d like to cut to the chase. I will say they usually get quite busy near the end.

Audiobook The Rough Collier by Pat McIntosh

The Gil Cunningham series is always enjoyable if you like a good mystery and have an interest in history. My only complaint is that I found this one a bit confusing – so many characters and so many places to try to keep in order. A list of characters and maybe a map at the front might have been helpful. Also an explanation of some of the more obscure references such as \”honey-piss\”. Is Pat Mcintosh a Dorothy Dunnett fan I wonder? There are some definite echos in her books.

Audio The Rough Collier narrated by Andrew Watson

I was enjoying this whole series until the price jumped. They are good but not worth the increased price in my opinion. The mysteries are not very challenging and were starting to become trite when I abandoned the series. Up to that point, though, the whole series was ver entertaining.
