The Science of Celebrity . . . or Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong about Everything?

She is, but this a book that is best judged by its cover.

I enjoyed the book. Although it would help if the author spent time giving a more thorough scientific explanation of why people tend to fall for all that celebrity “voodoo.” Other than that I will definitely refer this book to some of my friends that fall for various online detoxes, juice cleanses and other similar nonsense. Oh yeah, did I mention Michael Phelps’ cupping 🙂

Easy reading about a big subject: the many problems with celebrity obsessed culture.

If nothing convinced you that mother nature has given you liver and kidneys to detox what you consume internally without thinking about detox programs promoted by the least educated individuals in physical health, then this writing may.

OK, that’s not breaking news. But Timothy Caulfield’s book with the fantastic title really is. Caulfield completely read my mind about the redoubtably dumb Ms. Paltrow, Goop guru and flake extraordinare. Detoxifying cleanses are crap (so to speak), and all Paltrow presides over is the Cult of Flake.

The first and second chapters are available for review on the international edition. They’re a total hoot, but they’re also backed up by something of which Ms. Paltrow is lacking (aside from a measurable IQ): real science.

Good work, Mr. Caulfield. I’m waiting on tenterhooks for the finished version.
