The Shining was written in the late 1947, it was when King and his wife, Tabitha, stayed in a Hotel where they were the only guests that night. The Hotel was located in Estes Park, Colorado, the place where King got inspired to write The Shining after staying into what he described as a “grand old hotel”. The story input King’s personal fears which are the dangers of alcoholism and the loss of family bonds which leads to separation. In the early stages of his career, he struggled with alcoholism and concerned that he might lose control due to his addiction and end up hurting his family.
To make the story short, The Shining’s main characters disguise their true identities behind imaginative masks. The title “The Shining’, doesn’t literally denote positivity when light is involved. Like the phrase in the story that says “it will shine when it shines”, where if you take it as it is, you will probably think of the weather. Yet, the phrase has different interpretation in the story, where “shining” indicates a psychic ability. A natural phenomenon that suggests the reality and validity of third eye feeling and prophecies.
The Shining is a really great story, it shows how the author manages to flip his character despite his flaws. It was one of the best horror books King has ever written.
