Each month, I love sitting down with Lani Lynn Vale’s next book. It’s like a regular visit with a group of old friends. She has created this huge, interconnected fictional world that I just can’t seem to get enough of. The Simple Man Series is Vale’s first second-generation series, and its roots are in her debut series, Freebirds, as these books center around the children of the lead couples from that series or, as Vale and her long-time readers refer to these characters, the Free Kids. Because of that connection, fan-favorite characters from previous series pop up throughout these books, and it’s a nice surprise for readers to catch a glimpse of those characters. Something Vale does exceptionally well is write everyday heroes as her lead men. She’s written police officers, firemen, paramedics, and she writes them all so naturally and realistically that readers can’t help but fall for these good men. Too Bad So Sad features police officer, Tyler Cree. Tyler has never quite recovered from a painful, dual betrayal that left his heart in tatters. Reagan Alvarez, the daughter of Downey from Vale’s KPD-SWAT series, is a firecracker and one determined little lady, or well, she’s determined to drive Tyler crazy. Their back-and-forth bickering and bantering was hilariously refreshing and so much fun to read. They may have started out as adversaries, but their chemistry was so volatile that it literally sparked all around them and proved to be impossible to ignore. Too Bad So Sad is another fabulous addition to a series full of fantastic stories. Entertaining with an edge of suspense, Vale worked her magic blending her crazy sense of humor with a fun, sexy romance. Five smooches from me for Too Bad So Sad by Lani Lynn Vale.

Hmmmm where do I start this review? I will say this besides Coke and Cora, I think this may be my favorite of the series. I think these last two books were the best of the whole series by far. We get to follow Cheif Tyler Cree and Reagan in this book. Lets start with Reagan. I would say that we first meet Reagan in this series, but that’s not entirely true. Reagan is Bennett’s daughter that he had when he was just a teenager. I guess I hadn’t put two and two together until this book and she mentions who her father is. But anyways I liked Reagan, I thought she was a likable character. She’s sweet, nice, kind, caring, and a bit shy. Ahhh Tyler…. We finally get to know the Cheif better. Tyler’s the man that came in to position of Cheif after the whole department he’s taken over is found to be mostly dirty. We’ve gotten to see him breifly in the other books, but haven’t gotten to really known him. But I really enjoyed getting to know him in this book. He’s a man that’s kind of set in his way’s after having his heart torn out. I have to say that the last few books I know I’ve complained about the family connection or the absence of the family connections in this series. But I’ll have to say that it wasn’t really missing in this book. That was one of the first things I noticed. I will also say that this book has the most ties to Mrs. Vale’s other series. When you read it you’ll understand what I mean. We also get to meet some new character’s coming up in a new series. But I did enjoy this book. I’m giving this book 4 Stars out of 5!!!!

Audiobook Too Bad So Sad (Simple Man #5) by Lani Lynn Vale

I should have learned by now that I should not start a Lani book at 11 pm, but I did. I didn’t finish until 2 am, but the book hangover I have this morning is WORTH IT! I enjoyed reading Tyler and Reagan’s book. First of all, I love Bennett and Lennox’s story. Reagan always made me laugh in their book, but I love the grown up Reagan too. Tyler is a perfect fit for her and their story is just so darn sweet. Lani is just plain talented. I think in every review I say the same thing: “she makes you feel what the characters feel and brings the real to the story.” If you are on the fence about Lani’s books, don’t be. They are worth it. This book is worth it. I waited 8 months of seeing “Lights to My Siren” popping up on recommended books for me before taking the plunge. I would recommend that if you are first time Lani reader, take the plunge. You will not be disappointed. I also recommend starting at the beginning with Boomtown then make your way to this book. I cannot pick a favorite book boyfriend, but Tyler Cree is now in the top 10. Lani brings a bit of herself,a piece of herself, to every book and character. To me, that makes her an amazing author. I highly recommend this book and all of her books.

Audio Too Bad So Sad (Simple Man #5) narrated by Joe Arden Virginia Rose

So yep, I did it again….. devoured another Lani Lynn Vale book in one sitting!! I’m beginning to think I’ve got an addiction to this lady and her stories..hell, no need to think about it. I’ve got a serious case of must read whenever Lani brings out a new read! Too Bad, So Sad is the 5th book in the Simple Man series and it was a fun, hot, action packed read that was chock full of chemistry and sexual attraction that I’ve come to expect from Ms Vale. I really liked Tyler Cree, even though he came across as a bit of a jerk the first couple of times he ran into Reagan. Once he admitted to himself how much he liked her and that he couldn’t stay away from her his protective side really kicked into gear even though he didn’t think he could trust or feeling something for a female ever again. We find out exactly why he’s so hellbent on not moving thing forward with Reagan and I liked how that side of the story panned out. Reagan Alvarez was a little bit of a nut case….in a good way! Passionate about her job, she gets blinkered when focused on what she wants to do and ends up finding herself in some sort of trouble most of the time – which is exactly the case when it comes to her first encounter with Tyler…. She didn’t want to like him given how he’d been with her and due to the fact that she’d had enough of controlling a/h in her life, but there was no denying the attraction she had to him and once she decided she wasn’t gonna let him forget about her it was game on! I love the inclusion of characters from earlier in this and other series and reading TBSS made me want to go reread more than a few of Lani’s previous books. A definite recommended read that I’m rating 4.5*

Every time I read one of Lani Lynn Vale’s books I’m excited for the next one. This was as usual a fantastic read. Loved Tyler Cree the guarded Chief of Police & Regan Rose Alvarez (daughter of Bennett) who’s so in her own world. This book introduces you to Rome. Who’s story is the first book in Bear Bottom MC series. Brilliant!
