Whiskey for Breakfast

It is a pity I had to give this drivel one star, it deserves negative stars. The blurb paints it as a detective-type caper with a feisty heroine – which is just my cup of tea. But this book is simply a turgid set of romantic encounters with various men, who apparently can\’t resist our heroine. There are loving and extensive descriptions of the clothes she wears, the showers she takes, the food she eats, the drinks she drinks, the parties she goes to… you get the picture. The plot gets completely buried under all this self-indulgent detail until you actually don\’t care much. I got about a third of the way through the book and then gave up as it was clear that the story – if there even is a story – would be an afterthought. In fact, most of the time I forgot there was a story, this book is more like a celebrity reality show. Awful. I am cross with myself for buying the second one as it is highly unlikely I have the strength to attempt to read it.

I need to start by saying that I enjoy the antics of Addison Holmes, her attraction to Matt Savage FBI agent and her love for Nick Dempsey but this book had a little over the top too much sex to be enjoyable. The story line is good, getting into the situations is funny, all the while trying to have a life without complications. Will I continue reading the series, yes and hopefully they will not be like reading a Harlequin novel. Liliana Hart has the ability to write so much better.

I forced myself to finish this book in the hope it might improve. It didn\’t. Although the story is supposed to be a mystery, it is filled with tedious pages of juvenile like sex. If you want to read about a silly woman and her sex fantasies, it might be the book for you. For me, it was boring.

I love this series! There are some legit laugh out loud moments. The title character is lovable and charming with some southern sass! She\’s caught between a rock and a hard place but she is funny and tough stuff! The book is a fast pace easy read- much akin to the Janet evanovich Stephanie Plum series- but with more southern charm and humidity! Great series for romance, comedy and mystery- easy read, not too predictable plot and characters that you can believe

Addison Holmes has finally begun to look like the intelligent woman she would have to be in order to teach history to high school students. Earlier in the series, she seemed to behave like a silly teenager, ignoring her \”mother\’s\” instructions or in her case it would be her boss and the detective who loves her madly instructions. Her mother is a piece of work who Addison avoids as much as possible since mom is a gossip who never ceases to pry any information she can from her daughter. Now, that mom has \”found her true self\” after her policeman husband passed on and she married another police officer who was her deceased husband\’s friend, she has less time to annoy Addison which may explain why Addison is adapting her newly learned skills as an investigator more efficiently. She is still not without mishaps or the strong possibility she will get in over her head, but she is using her head which makes her more interesting. The sparring between Nick and her could end when, in book 3, Nick proposes.
