He received Anthony Award back to back in 2005 and 2006 for best novel. The Ordinary Grace novel of the author in 2013 won the Edgar Award for the best novel. Iron Lake is another good novel by William Kent Krueger.
This book is narrated by Scott Brick who has got the experience of narrating hundreds of audiobooks already. He has hardly ever given a weak performance. This novel in that regard is no different as Scott Brick was once again at his usual best.
This Tender Land
The story of this novel is set in 1032. Lincoln School is situated right at the bank of the Gilead River. It was in Minnesota. The school was home to many of the Native American kids who got separated from their families. There were only a couple of white orphan boys in this school, who were Albert and Odie. They were living there under a strict superintendent, who was Mrs. Brickman.
They often get troubled with their misdeed which could be both imaginary and real. The best friend of these two boys was Mose. He was a mute guy of Native American origin. He was also among the strongest kids in the school. These three were able to find another good friend in Cora Frost. She was a widowed teacher in that school and was working to raise Emmy, her little daughter all by herself.
The storyline of this book is amazing. The writing style of the author is gorgeous and you will also find it to be wonderfully evocative. The epilogue of this audiobook is, unfortunately, missing, which was a disappointment. It tells that what exactly happened with the four vagabonds.
