Try (Temptation #1)

So many people loved this book, so once again I am out of sync with the majority… Essentially this book is a series of very long sex scenes (some are endless,) with minimal plot in between. I was hoping for some chemistry and connection between the main characters but essentially what it boils down to is a very aggressive manwhore character (Logan) who will not take no for an answer (which in and of itself is NOT acceptable and creepy stalkers) from a wishy washy good looking guy (Tate) who is straight. Logan gets his man — Tate goes from a lifetime of straight to gay in two weeks? Huh? And what follows is one sex scene after the other. You never find out what these guys have in common or what attracts them to each other other than the fact that they’re hot. They never have a full conversation. There isn’t much movement beyond sheer lust. There just isn’t any “there” there.
There are so many things wrong with this book! In addition to the points made above, I will just mention one shocking one: Logan is a lawyer and his law firm represents Tate’s wife in his divorce. Sleeping with the opposition is a first class ticket to being disbarred! Even I know that and I am not a lawyer!
I had been hoping for something along the lines of the Adrien English series — this is NOT it. I’d give this one a miss.

Try by Ella Frank is book one in her highly acclaimed Temptation series and if you havent heard of it or the two MCs Logan Mitchell and Tate Morrison, you MUST be living under a rock. Seriously, this book is one of the first mm romance books I read, back when it was a new release and I was hooked! So started my transition from lover of hetero contemporary romance to lover of all mm romance. Now almost 4 years later I rarely read hetero romance. I owe it all to Logan and Tate, they ignited the spark in me! So, why am I reviewing a book almost 4 years late? Well, back when I originally read this amazing story it seems I failed to review it! *hangs head in shame* So, to right that wronghere we are!

So, lets talk about Try there probably isnt a lot I can say that hasnt been said over and over in numerous reviews, but I must Try. (Hahahasorry, I am just a little dorky) Ok, our MCs as mentioned earlier Logan Mitchell, he is confident, sauve, has a mouth on him that would make a sailor blush, goes after what or who he wants, and he doesnt stop until he is happy.

Who does he want? Well, the sexy bartender known as Tate Morrison. Tate, he is the man who is happy just blending in, spending time with his family, working towards his dream of one day opening a bar of his own. Recently divorced he has never looked at another man and had any attraction not even a blip on his radar.

So, when Logan walks into his bar and starts flirting up a storm with him he is both flummoxed and on edge, he cant understand why this man wont take no for an answer.

Logan however doesnt see what the problem is he afterall is a lover of all, man or women, it doesnt matter if he finds them attractive he goes for it. Now if he can just get Tate to overcome his doubts, worries, and fear just get him to try them once. He is sure the chemistry and encounter will be enough to warrant a repeat or two.

SoI like to try a little bit of everything and everyone.

The words sank into Tates head, settling in, and then they started to make a whole lot more sense until Logan, as usual, threw another can of gasoline on the fire.

Id like to try you.

There is a lot of cat & mouse action in this book, so if you like a book with a good chase and a satisfying resolution Try is just for you!

This book was my introduction into the MM world. Yep, I popped my MM cherry with this book and I couldn’t have picked a better book to be my first.

Logan… the man exudes sex from the way he walks, talks, dresses, to those sexy glasses. He’s cocky and has no filter. He is willing to try anything once whether that be with a woman or an man. He’s all about doing what makes you feel good and having fun while doing it. When he see’s something he wants he has no trouble going after it. Even a man that is straight and wants nothing to do with him. But Logan in determined to win the hottie bartender Tate over and he doesn’t mind the chase. Tate had no chance.
Tate is in the middle of a divorce and is starting over. He has no desire to jump into a relationship and especially not with a man. Tate is annoyed that Logan keeps coming into his work to flirt with him. He’s also annoyed that the flirting is working and making him have thoughts and strange feelings towards a man. The more Tate denies what’s happening and pushes Logan away the more persistent Logan becomes until finally Tate caves.

What proceeds is some really hot chemistry and sex. They both are having new feelings. Logan has never done a repeat and has never wanted anyone more than once or twice. But with Tate he can’t get enough of the man and he’s starting to fear that he may never want anyone else. He’s not the committing kind and just the thought of settling down makes him nauseous. But he can’t deny the attraction or the connection he has with Tate. Tate is confused by his new feelings for a man. But he can’t deny the way Logan makes him feel or the connection and draw he has towards him. The relationship unfolds a bit slowly. There is more sex than there is relationship. I didn’t mind but eventually the reader (or just me) is going to need more.

If you haven’t given this book a shot I recommend you do.

Ok so onto the actual book…
I cant express enough how much I love these guys
I have only ever read M/F books (1000’s of them) but I had never read a M/M
book before reading Try, I just thought I wouldn’t really enjoy reading about two guys getting it on…
and then I heard loads of people talking about these two guys Logan & Tate. That there was this awesome book called Try everyone was loving. So that’s what I did, give it a Try… and I have never looked back since
I have now read these books countless times, I will never tire of them and just end up loving them more each time

When is started Try I was still a bit nervous about reading the sexual stuff but once I started to get to know cheeky cocky Logan and sweet amazing Tate, I just fell so damn hard in love with them…
The sex… wow, I never thought in a million years that two guys having sex was anything I would even think about, but it was hot as hell and a real turn on… I couldn’t get enough

I love the journey these guys go on. I love watching them fall hard for each other, God I just love everything about them

Logan and Tate really changed the way I look at “Romance”
Romance and love isn’t just between a man & woman… it comes in all different forms, its really true “LOVE IS LOVE”

Since first reading these books roughly a year ago, I have gone on to read 100’s more M/M books and I have been introduced to the huge amazing M/M community which has lead me to many amazing authors and endless awesome M/M books
I loved Logan and Tate’s story that much I have not read another M/F book since

Logan and Tate will forever have a special place in my heart
They are not just two characters… to me they feel so damn real, like family

I am going to give this book two ratings and this is a first!!
If you are looking for a hot, steamy read that happens to be of the m/m genre then I rate this book 4.5 sexy, sizzling stars!

If you are a traditional m/m reader and are looking for a love story, full of connection and emotion then I rate this book 3 stars!

“How do you know – unless you TRY?”

I absolutely love m/m genre books and I also love Ella Frank’s work so I knew I would be onto a winner with this one. Ella Frank always manages to draw me in to her characters stories, her writing style always emotional and captivating, the Edible series being one of my favourites.

Well, what can I say…Ella certainly delivered on the hot, steamy, panty combusting area of this book. Seriously, seriously smoking hot scenes that I thought may actually set my kindle on fire. They were raw, intense and powerful, you could not help but be drawn into these love scenes. I will warn you though that these guys have A LOT of sex!! They literally cannot keep their hands of each other, once they start, they seriously cannot stop. Whereas Ella normally has a perfect balance in her books of sex and substance, I did feel that this one was a bit heavy on the sex and lacking in the substance. It was a case of instalust/love and I personally just felt that the build up should have been a bit more fleshed out. I just felt that a straight guy coming to terms with his sexuality, having never ever had feelings for another man, let alone embark on a new relationship with one would have had a lot of emotional turmoil and this did not come through in this book. I loved their text conversations though, this is where we did get to see glimpses of the real Logan and Tate.

Logan, he is one alpha male, he is openly bi-sexual and is a total and utter man whore. That is until he sets his eyes on Tate. Tate is a bar tender in the bar that Logan frequents after work. Logan has an instant attraction to Tate and not just a “I cannot wait to Try and get in this guys pants attraction,” but Logan knew it was a bit more than that and to some extent that worried and scared him. Logan being Logan though, has never been refused and this chase somewhat became a mission.

“what makes you so goddamn sexy – the fact that you don’t wait around when you see something you want, and you don’t stop until you’re …absolutely…f**king…satisfied.”

Tate, hot, sexy, leather clad biker never really stood a chance once Logan had set his eyes on him. Tate is still reeling as he is going through a nasty divorce with his soon to be ex-wife and Logan’s constant attention is both bewildering and flattering. We do get a few internal monologues of his struggles as he comes to terms with these alien feelings but I couldn’t actually connect with his thought processes and emotions. I would have loved to have been inside his head for a while to see and feel those internalisations, feel the emotion, I wanted to feel scared for him, I wanted to feel the anxiety and I wanted to feel the constant second guessing of the decisions that he made.

“As Logan raised his knees and wrapped his legs around Tate’s waist, he whispered, “Terrify me.””

I do love these two as a couple, I feel that they have a long way to go and a long road ahead of them, but I really want to see them both make a go of it. Will Tate be the man to finally settle Logan? Will Tate’s family cause problems for them going forward? Will Tate be able to come to terms with his new sexuality and be open about it? It does seem that when these two are together the rest of the world becomes a haze and all they can see is each other as we have already seen, but Logan wants to shout and scream from the roof tops as does Tate to a certain extent but he still needs to get his head round it too. All these questions I need to be answered and now have to wait for the next in their series. I can’t wait to read it and see where Ella takes them.
