This book describes Julissa’s story from the moment she was born in mexico, to the moment she is accepted into college in the US, it describes her journey as an undocumented immigrant. I read it in 3 hours, the language was simplistic and monotone.
If you are interested in a compressed version of an undocumented immigrant this book is for you, but it is written simply, a third grader could read it. If you are looking for a complex story stay away from this book and read My (underground) American Dream instead.
Disappointed that this book had nothing new to offer.

Everyone should read this book in my opinion. It is very useful to understand what immigrants have to go through and what they put at stakes in order to be able to study and work in this country. Puts things in perspective and I think the main message is that if you really want something and work hard for it, you will succeed (this applies to everyone I think, not just immigrants). Very inspiring, I would totally recommend this book, which is also very well written and easy to read.

Audio Someone Like Me narrated by Julissa Arce
Purchased this as a nonfiction book for homeschooling a 5th grader. We both loved the story and how it was written. I liked that it opened the door to have deeper conversations about the topics it covered. My 5th grader loved that it was set in our state and she had been the places mentioned in the book. She also liked that it was about a girl.
