Crank Palace (The Maze Runner #5.5)

I have always loved all the James Dashner books, Ive read the maze runner, scorch trials, death cure and the kill order and Im excited to read this too and give to my friend to read because she also loved the series. Its a cute little book too 🙂

Boring. Very very boring. You see, Newt is like one of my favorite characters ever. And ya know what shank, i don’t think Newt said shank once. This main character (who ever the shuck that was) was very flat and like i said, boring. If Newt wasn’t supposed to be going insane from the Flare, I’d say Dashner was on drugs and drunk when he wrote this all in the night before it was sent out to pofessional reviewers. We learn nothing new in this book (besides a klunky side story about this really annoying chick and her little mute kid.) I’m honestly very confused about this whole entire book. If i hadn’t read the synopsis of the book I wouldn’t know what was bloody happening most of the time. On top of all this guess what, drumroll please………………………………………………………………………………………………… Page 250 never plays out in this. I am confused beyond reason why so much was skipped.

This is marked as volume 5.5, but I read it in chronological order, so shortly after I finished The Death Cure. I wanted to make sure the relevant book was still fairly fresh in my mind.
First thing, I don’t recall them saying specifically that they flew in from Alaska. I’m not sure if that’s my memory or if it actually wasn’t mentioned until now.
On to the story. It’s divided up into two parts. Part one is what happens when Newt leaves the Berg. Part two starts at the point where Thomas and the others come looking for him. Despite being divided up this way, it’s still one cohesive story. There is just a few days long gap between parts one and two.
I don’t know what I was expecting, but I didn’t read the description, so I definitely was not expecting Newt to go on a noble adventure.
It was interesting to see what Newt was thinking and experiencing. It makes me wonder if what he said was what he really wanted.
The ending raises a few questions. I don’t recall the answers to any of them being in The Death Cure, so I kind of wonder if there might be a post series story or something later, or if those particular details just aren’t going to be covered. I have not yet read The Kill Order or The Fever Code, but as far as I know, those are prequels, so I doubt they have the answers to the questions raised by this book.
Overall, I enjoyed this short story. I think I like Newt a little more than I did before.

Maze was terrific but crank palace was horrific. Asinine plot with a Newt epigone. More like a fan script than an accomplished author of a well written series that drew you in. Crank was a laborious disappointment. Shame on you for turning out a vacuous shell appropriating Newts name and legend.

I loveeee this book! If your a maze runner can you definitely need to read!
