This book was a smug, overlong recitation of a weird, endless block party with parents’ night thrown in. The characters, sadly, are likely based on actual people. Actual people who seem interchangeable. It was not worth the effort to keep the names straight. I kept waiting for it to get better. It did not. It was not clever. It was not witty. It reminded me of those novels from the 70s that allowed the reader to skip 2 or 3 pages at a time and effortlessly recapture the storyline…but were still dull no matter where it picked back up. I read it through until the words ran out. I don’t know why (if?) books celebrating homogeneous little enclaves are still popular in 2020, but it was…vaguely unpleasant. Hard to work up enthusiasm for this one.

had dropped the ball on my reading and reviewing because I had a baby, and the election, and the pandemic, etc etc. So to get back into it, in the first free day I have had in a month I read the entiretyof Cobble Hill.
How cruel 2020 was that I couldn’t make it to a beach, because that is where I would read this again. It is a very bland novel, not necessarily tackling any subject of sensitivityor hot-topic issues. But that is okay, that is what I needed, and what you might need, too. It’s just a good-ole-jalopy of upper-middle-class/upper-class Brooklynites in like an episode of Gilligan’s Island.. (technically they could leave Cobble Hill…). See multiple characters, hijinks, everyone ends up okay. Fast rhythm, simple sentencestructure. Sure, why not?

Audiobook Cobble Hill by Cecily von Ziegesar
The story does not make sense. The plot is all over the place. This book is one of my least favorite The writer needs to stick to young adult genre.

Audio Cobble Hill narrated by Pete Simonelli
If you are expecting this to be Gossip Girl for adults, you will be disappointed. It is not Gossip Girl. It is not trying to be Gossip Girl. What Cobble Hill, however, does share with Gossip Girl is that they are both, in a way, character studies. Gossip Girl lets you into a world you may not have known existed, and that is exactly what Cobble Hill does. The writing is so well done that it makes me want to write. I could not put it down, and I didnt want it to end. Its not about what is happening, or what is going to happen next, it is about who the characters are. And if you actually read the Gossip Girl books rather than just watched the show, thats exactly what you would have hoped for and expected from this book as well. It was perfect.
