Tsarina

This book is about a woman, Marta, of unknown background who found favor with Tzar Peter and travelled with him to wars. She was with him while Petersburg was built. After three or four pregnancies, Peter married her. She was pregnant 12 times, but was survived by 2 daughters.
This is Marta’s story until her death in 1727.

I absolutely loved this book. It is one of the best books about Russia I have read. The characters all seemed so real!

Anytime one reads an historical novel, it must maintain pace, one already knows the outcome. To some degree this novel does that, but way too many times the finite descriptions go on way too long and take away from the instead of adding to it. The first half moves much better than the second. Maybe things made up are more interesting than real life.

this is a book that is very hard to put down, forget able the housework, just fine as nice spot and read, you are transport back in time and place of a world that we will never see again.

be ready for an incredibly bloody read. If the historical details are fact, its a comment on how the country evolved
