Gods have chosen Phèdre for a special purpose since the beginning and they are not in a mood to let her go loose. She has to fulfill the purpose of her life and it does not matter that whether she is suffering the consequences of her actions heavily or not because no one is showing mercy on the poor Phèdre.
Test of time has made Phèdre strong and perhaps she is not looking for any kind of help and sympathy from her allies or the rare friends that she has been blessed with. There is a group of people on the land that wants to change the ruler i.e the young queen. The young queen is also fully prepared to face these rebels who have grown in number in a short time.

Anne Flosnik hasn’t given both Phèdre and the queen the same kind of tone while narrating the novel. The narrator has done this thing because both women are different in temperament and status too. Kushiel’s Dart described the start of the series very well and after this Kushiel’s Avatar will take the story further in which the fate of the chosen girl would be revealed. Till now the girl has just suffered things which she never opted for herself.
