My Sinful Nights is a reimagining of Sweet Sinful Nights, and wow, the rewrite is really great! Classic Lauren Blakely in terms of witty banter, steamy interactions and great character development and relationship development, with the added kick suspense that develops throughout the entire series of books.
Brent and Shannon broke each others’ hearts 10 years ago, and then Shannon seemed to just disappear, so Brent never had the chance to try to resolve their issues. You can say that they broke up over something that could have been solved with communication, but honestly, they were not mature enough to think things through and have the perspective that they would have needed to make it work. But they are fully ready to grab this second chance by the horns now that it has unexpectedly presented itself.
I read the book and listened to the audio. I like to read the book first to experience just the story, and then if I like the book, I listen to the audio to get the more emotional experience that narration brings. I was thoroughly satisfied with both the read and the listen. The narration by Joe Arden and Andi Arndt was spot on and really enhanced the story.

There are as many types of second chance romances as there are reasons they didnt work out the first go-round, but MY SINFUL NIGHTS is the best kind – the kind where the love was always strong and never truly died. All it took was a gentle nudge to get the two to cross the paths of fate again and have their next time be their right time.
There is misunderstanding, terrible loss, but once Shannon and Brent meet ten years later, all that becomes regret for time lost. They both made mistakes but Brent was determined Shannon would never again have her heartbroken or feel anything in his life was more important than her.
What a heartfelt story with enough intrigue and interesting characters to get me started on book 2.

Audiobook My Sinful Nights (Sinful Men #1) by Lauren Blakely
I hadn’t previously read the first version of this series but I’m certainly happy I get to experience it this time. I really enjoyed what I just finished.
Brent was kind of impossible not to love. Even with the way things happened in the past, I couldn’t blame him or dislike him. It just felt like a case of bad timing.
Shannon/Shay as well was easy to like even if there were moments I wanted to shake her for jumping to conclusions. I really felt like the love between these two characters was clear. It just took them a decade to get on the same page.
I also loved that while they were apart they both did things for themselves instead of being frozen in place because of their heartbreak. They really grew during that time and I think it made them more ready for each other the second time around.
I loved the mystery that was thrown into this story as well as the family dynamics too. I look forward to reading more about this family soon.

Audio My Sinful Nights (Sinful Men #1) narrated by Andi Arndt Joe Arden
I am reviewing this book not my husband. I enjoyed books written by Ms. Blakey in the past. I was excited to revisit this author. I must say I was very disappointed in My Sinful Nights. The book started well. However the storyline became tedious. The main character, Shannon, was so annoying with her past baggage. And, it was tiring hearing constantly how beautiful she was from Brent and Oh I love you and I love you too from the two main characters. Gag. The back and forth between I love you but I should leave the relationship was nauseating and predictable. In between the 10 year baggage between the lovers the author weaves questions regarding the murder of Shannons father. The murder occurred 18 years ago. But the question of her mothers guilt and possible danger to Shannon is introduced throughout the book. Well neither issue is answered and reader is left hanging. Its not until the epilogue that the reader realizes it is a set up for Ms Blakeys next book. The next book that I have no intention of reading.

Overall 4 stars
Performance 5 stars
Story 3-3.5 stars
I’m such a sucker for second chance romances and this one really hit me in the feels. It’s always hard to balance the separation and reunion in second chance romances and Lauren Blakely did it wonderfully for Brent and Shannon. Yes, the initial misunderstanding was a bit over the top, but it was really only the straw that broke the camel’s back. At that point in their lives, they just weren’t emotionally ready and mature enough to make things work long term. I appreciated that even though mistakes were made, they tried to prevent them from happening again and to show the other that they were all in this time around. The overall pacing of the story was a little slow, but I’m excited to learn more about the secondary characters, especially Mindy and the Sloan siblings. I really enjoyed the bit of suspense too regarding Shannon’s parents and their tragic history. It will be interesting to see it all play out in the series.
The narration by Joe Arden and Andi Arndt was wonderful and they did a fantastic job bringing Brent and Shannon to life. The additional cameos by Teddy Hamilton, Sebastian York, Maxine Mitchell, Samantha Cooke, and Tim Paige were such a treat. No one does audio better than Lauren Blakely! I’m excited to listen to Ryan’s story next.
