The Puppy Lady, best known as Pups, is sixty-eight years old and known far and wide for her rescue work with puppies. Her husband Jake was killed in a drive-by shooting. Now she herself is dying of a fatal disease. Not a very likely murderer, but nonetheless she’s just been arrested for murdering a neighbor who complained about her dogs. She may even be found guilty of orchestrating her husband’s killing.
Andy Carpenter takes the case of defending Pups because she’s an old friend, and he loves dogs. Oddly enough, the case against Pups is strong.
Andy’s most brilliant insight in this case comes from his in-depth knowledge of sports trivia. He and his pals are sports fanatics, as is his adopted son. Andy makes fun of sports mania quite a bit, but that’s just one target for his wit. He’s also funny on such subjects as his own lack of personal courage, the taciturn manner and enormous appetite of his scary bodyguard Marcus, the brilliance of the team of octogenarian hackers Andy’s firm employs for research, the quirky behavior of small-time gang members etc. I like Andy’s cocky character and corny sense of humor, so I always read these books laughing and groaning (silently, I hope).
I’m also a great fan of Andy in court. His cross-examinations are riveting. How cleverly he ridicules the thinking of the prosecution! How neatly he undermines the witnesses for the prosecution! How gingerly he tiptoes around the no-nonsense judge!
I enjoyed this book, as I do all the Andy Carpenter novels. If you’re a fan of the series, you should welcome this one. If you’re just looking for a fun and feel-good Christmas mystery, The Twelve Dogs of Christmas is that too.

The Twelve Dogs of Christmas audiobook in series Carpenter Series
David Rosenfelt knows just how to combine a crime with a great animal story and that is not an easy accomplishment.
This book again brings us back to Andy Carpenter with his family and friends trying to help another dog rescuer get released from her murderer conviction. Pups is not the most affable woman but her love of animals is her top priority after the loss of her husband and when she is set up for murdering a neighbor that did not like her animals Andy knows he will work to the end to get her released.
There are some tricky complications that come up here and there including a step son that now believes he is entitled to half of everything his late father had while everything does not smell amazing this guy reeks of day old poop! Andy is determined to get things set straight for Pups because time is invaluable to someone with the clock ticking.

Audiobook The Twelve Dogs of Christmas by David Rosenfelt
The defendant rescues puppies. She’s a very wealthy widow, but she’s terminally ill. She’s made put her will and bequeathed everything including large land tracks worth millions of dollars to animal rescue groups.
After her neighbor is murdered, she’s arrested, and if she’s convicted she’ll lose most of her wealth and those land holdings will go to greedy developers.
But she’s innocent, and a dying woman should not have to endure the stress of a murder trial. Who is framing her and why?
This is a particularly satisfying mystery, not only because of what it says about people in animal rescue, but also what it says about others whose greed engulfs them. Andy Carpenter, the series lawyer, is brilliant in the court room scenes, and I particularly liked how he figured the case out. The important clue is there, but you have to be a baseball fanatic to catch it before Carpenter does.

Audio The Twelve Dogs of Christmas narrated by Grover Gardner
Rosenfelt is one of the most entertaining authors that I have yet read on my Kindle form Amazon or in any other form of literature. He is constantly humorous, his plots are mind boggling, and his messages are always for the human good. To top this off, he loves animals, especially dogs. This story is about a lady named “Pus”. She raises stray pups to a point where they may be adopted to live their deserved lives. She is accused of a serious crime and defended by Andy Carpenter, an attorney, who constantly gets into jams about doing what is right! The story is extremely interesting and I know you will enjoy it as you laugh out loudly on many occasions while reading!

I needed a light and relaxing read when this book appeared on my self. What could be better than a dog story, the cover was charming. While I found a weak point, I cherish the book. Pups is a well known as she takes in pregnant dogs until the litter born and raised the puppies until they are ready to find homes. Andy decided to take a case defending Pups from zoning changes. He succeeds only to be confronted with a murder charge against Pups. As Andy searched for answers he found a deadly reason for seizing land and Pups inheritance. The ending may have you crying so be prepared. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND SERIES.
