All of these reviews on how Roth uses the F word and there are sexual situations… yes you slow people this is Roth’s first ADULT novel. Your 14-17-year-old child reads more adult books on Wattpad for FREE. Anyways, on to the review. This book is very new and different from anything I’ve read in a while. The book is definitely slow-building but it makes sense to me with how much detail there is to make sure you see the world in the book. The story picks up and gets more exciting towards the end, but the building that Roth does and the flow of the book are amazing. Do yourself a favor and buy this book now cause I can already tell this series (on Goodreads a sequel looks to be coming) is going to be great. Although the book ends on a good note it’s kinda difficult to see the need for a second one, but needless to say I’m absolutely ready for it.

What a bunch of disappointing crap! Apparently Roth has decided she needs to use the\”F\” word in every paragraph with other swear words too! I would never, NEVER let my 17 year old read this. Awful beginning to the book/story (I don\’t care about the characters or story-line), even if Roth wasn\’t trying to distance hers from all she at one time stood for. So sorry I pre-ordered this book as I have wasted $16+ ! I am not even going to finish it regardless that the money is spent. Won\’t waste my time-or order/read more of her books.

Audiobook Chosen Ones (The Chosen Ones #1) by Veronica Roth
I\’ve enjoyed all prior books by this author, so I was really looking forward to this one. Unfortunately I can\’t get past all the swearing which was not in any of her prior books. And before you point out that it\’s an adult novel and I should have know better, that doesn\’t justify the addition of swearing as there are plenty of adult novels that do not resort to this. It\’s a sudden style change by the author with justification that it\’s an adult novel and I don\’t appreciate it. This author has gathered a large group of young adult readers who have followed her every move and may themselves be now adults, I don\’t think it\’s fair to them to do such a sudden shift in writing style. I wish I could return the book and get my money back but I didn\’t read the book until the date had past to return it. My bad on that account.

Audio Chosen Ones (The Chosen Ones #1) narrated by Dakota Fanning
I really enjoyed the first half of the novel, with its what happens after the battle is won and the great evil defeated plot. But then it devolved into your run of the mill YA romp and I was very disappointed. SPOILER AHEAD: What I mostly hated was the lesbian erasure—what is the point of adding a lesbian character if you’re going to remove her from all the action? It’s the equivalent of JK’s “Dumbledore was gay” tweet. Same goes for Matt being black: sure you had him be The Chosen One in the original battle but then oops we didn’t kill the villain after all, here’s a white girl to finish the job. Sorry, babe, diversity isn’t something you can just sprinkle on like sprinkles on a cake.

I am an avid reader and I was very excited to read this book as I have greatly enjoyed Veronica Roth\’s Divergent series and Carve the Mark series. This book did not disappoint. I was so determined to know the ending that I read it in 3 days (this says a lot as I have 2 young kids at home). This book is centered around the character Sloane and her experience after being one of the \”Chosen Ones\” who defeated the Dark One. It took a couple of chapters to get an understanding of their world, but you are left with many questions that you have to keep reading to get the answers to. I love how the book has news articles or memos intertwined with the chapters so you can read other perspectives outside of Sloane\’s. Sloane is a fierce female character much like other YA novels, but her world and story are unique and complex. There are surprising turns in every chapter. If you enjoy books such as Divergent, Harry Potter, or The Hunger Games, I would highly recommend this book. I think maybe the best thing about it for me is that it is a stand-alone novel, no waiting for the next book to come out so you can finish the story!
