Daylight Follows

This is not my first book by Michelle Dare and it won\’t be my last! This was a book that I lost myself in and before I knew it I was finished. Daniella is in a relationship and going to college. But, there\’s something still missing in her life. Before she can put her finger on it she gets a phone call nobody ever wants. One of her best friends was killed in a car accident. Garrett moved after high school and never thought he\’d be back. But, when his high school friend died he didn\’t think twice about going back. He was nervous to see Daniella. Garrett had been in love with her for as long as he knew her. Unfortunately she didn\’t see him that way. When Garrett gets to town he learns that she isn\’t dealing with the loss of their friend well. She\’s not eating, sleeping or talking to anybody. Her boyfriend is smothering her. It\’s clear to him she just needs a friend. Somebody to just be there. Lend a shoulder to cry on, talk too or say nothing at all. Thats what he does. When he must leave to go back to work he lets her know he\’s there for her. Daniella was glad to see Garrett after so many years. He was just what she needed. He made her feel things her boyfriend never did. She wasn\’t feeling him before she got depressed after loosing her friend. But, now between his smothering and his anger she does something she should\’ve done awhile ago. Daniella dumps him. When Daniella goes for a trip she ends up running into Garrett. Things force them to spend more and more time together. They get into a nice routine. While Garrett doesn\’t want Daniella to leave and she doesn\’t want to leave either. There was nothing about Garrett that I didn\’t like. He really was the perfect guy. He was Daniella\’s friend in high school and was always there for her when she needed him. Now as an adult he loved her and even though he probably could\’ve taken advantage of her mental state.He still continued to be there for her as a friend and help her before he thought of himself. He\’s truly the perfect guy. My heart broke for Daniella. I cant imagine being lost and then loose my best friend. I was glad when she finally started doing things for herself that made her happy. I was even happier when she and Garrett gave into their feelings. They\’re perfect together. Michelle wrote a beautiful story. The way she wrote Daniella\’s emotional state from worse, bad, better and good was fantastic. She definitely didn\’t rush anything or make light of it. I\’m glad I bought this.

This one caused me to go through a whole box of tissues. Daniella and Garrett along with the entire cast of characters will become real to you. You\’ll feel things you didn\’t think a book could make you feel. I am so in love with Garrett. He\’s learning to open up his heart while Dani is dealing with the loss of her friend. This close-knit group of friends have not only a story to tell but an important message of depression, coping with the uncertainties of life and to live a life without regrets and to let your voice be heard. Dani and Garrett had to go through hell to reach their slice of heaven. The ending is utterly beautiful and have you full of happy tears. Michelle is such an emotional writer. As a reader, she will make you understand and feel each characters actions that they take or have to endure. The raw, real, tragic and magical lives these characters live could happen to anyone and make them more that words in a book. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. Daylight Follows is a sad read but has a happy ending. I haven\’t read a book that talks/shows depression/anxiety. It wasn\’t overbearing and it happens in real life. So it was nice to see/make those connections with the character(s). Daylight Follows is a heartwarming story. If the blurb catches your attention and/or peaks your interest then grab a copy of Daylight Follows. I find this quote to describe excatly what the book is about: \”Two people, to pass, both missing something significant. Storms world all around and the blackness of night seemed to last forever. They dare to hope daylight would follow.\”

This story of Dani and Garrett shows how something that is considered darkness can really bring a couple together. Yes you can feel the sadness and helplessness, but you can see how Dani works through her depression\’s ups and downs. Also, shockingly another character gives a completely different side of his/her struggles. It was great to another side depression.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review. This is the 2nd book I\’ve read written by Michelle Dare; she has done a great job at writing an interesting book. I will definitely be reading more of her books. The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book. I loved the characters.
