Just when I think that the previous installment of this series was my favorite I read the next one and quickly proclaim that one as my new favorite! I think it technically happened back in book 1, but I am officially going to accept the title of being a Shaddict! This book had it all, romance, drama, suspense, action and the list goes on and on. I knew with the introduction of Emilia in the last book that she would spell trouble for Derek and Sofia in this one and I was right. There were many moments when I wanted to throw my Kindle because of what was happening, even though I kind of already guessed the story was going to go there, it still didnt make it any less frustrating to read! It sucked what Derek had to go through but I was confident by now that Sofia and Dereks love will conquer all and had to hold on to that mantra as the story unfolded. The original vampire or The Elder was a force to be reckoned with and I fear for what he has in store next for these guys and The Shade.

With The Shade under the threat of attack from the hunters and other vampire covens alike we find our gang at The Shade struggling to figure out how to deal with everything. Ive really grown to love this group and how all of these vastly different humans and vampires came together to fight for their home. We got a few new viewpoints in this book, I liked seeing things through Ian and Kyles eyes and the little love triangle between them and Anna was very interesting. I wonder if well see more of where thats going, especially in light of what happens to Kyle in this book. Things with Sofias parents also come to a head in this book and I actually found the whole situation quite heart breaking, even despite my feelings towards Ingrid/Camilla. We also got information as to why the blood of an immune is so valuable and sought after and the race to find the cure definitely heated up. It really feels like all of the tidbits from the past 4 books really started to come together in this one!

I was very happy with where things were for Sofia and Derek by the end of this book and it was good seeing them enjoying some much needed R&R, however danger is quite literally still lurking in the darkness and I just know that their journey to HEA isnt quite over yet! But I look forward to seeing whats going to happen next for these two and the rest of the gang back at The Shade!

Because beautiful things, even when they are temporary, still manage to leave a part of their beauty with you even after theyre long gone.

Aiden makes the hardest decision is his life in order to protect his daughter. Ingrid finally sees the error of her ways but its too late. Emilias true identity is finally revealed. The cure is finally discovered and right in the nick of time. Sofia and Derek prove once again how strong their love really is. The shade is still in constant danger and the battles won so far are only the beginning. This only a fraction of the things that occur in this book. This book just keeps on surprising me. There is hardly any lax time because things are constantly happening.

This series starts out so great but the writing and story line start to fade – everything is becoming too lovely-dovey. I miss the love struggles, part of the enjoyment of a good book is the journey of the characters to get to their happily ever after, Bella speeds that up too fast, and here I’m not taking about the physical happily ever after, in that aspect Bella is good, she is dragging out Derek and Sophia riding off into the sunset, but she made them realize early on that they loved each other; which is fine, but all the other charater pairings are falling into love so easily, its dull. For example, Claudia and Yuri, suddenly Claudia does a 180 and becomes nice and Yuri has always loved her and they just easily fall into being a couple. It would have been nicer if they had struggled a little, perhaps Yuri being doubtful of Claudia’s change and the two of them having to work to find that they really love each other.

I would still recommend the books, they are good beach reads and for the price, not bad. Just feel the potential in the stories was better than the execution.

I think the basic story line is good, reasonable character development, but poke my eyes out with the continued interspersing recap of the story before.
All 6 books could fit into 2. If the reader is senile, then maybe the continued repetition would be valuable,
but save us and just do a recap in the beginning of the book and not every other paragraph.
Repetitious, had to skip paragraphs upon paragraphs.
