Imagining a new kind of world with a lesser number of humans in it is not easy for the audience as currently, the earth is a crowded place. C.A. Fletcher writes and narrates the story of a world in which the humans have finally vanished and now there are very few who have remained on the face of the planet now and one of them is Griz. Griz starts the story in first person pronoun which makes it clear that it is through his eyes the audience is watching the whole scene.

Playing football or other games like this is not possible anymore because there are not enough people to fulfill the two corners of the ground. That’s why because of all this, people have started befriending animals as everyone needs company in this life.
Griz for example has a dog as his best friend like the rest of his family that lives on an isolated island. In this stranded situation, none of them was ready for another person on the island as there was none left in the world. Then one day a thief came to their small island in search of something and the life of Griz’s family changes forever.

It is a nice effort by the author, though the story frustrates us at the start by the constant feeling of loneliness this feeling remains for only one or two chapters. Later those issues get resolved and the life of Griz’s family starts appearing to be appealing. The role of the dog is very important as it is the best friend which Griz possesses along his side.
