I have to admit the first half of this book I couldn’t get into, the main character is not likeable at all. Being 33 myself I really couldn’t believe a 35 year old was still so obsessed with instagram or that self absorbed. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot!
But I preserved as the book had such good reviews and I’m glad I did But I wouldn’t recommend listening to the book. Many of the chapters are so short, so a lot made no sense to me. (Some chapters go back in time)
I didn’t even realise the chapters had titles as I didn’t find that clear at all. (Until about half way through when I just so happened to be looking at the app and it all made sense!)
I listened to the last chapter over and over but I still have no clue what the last word is. And I’m not sure how the first chapter fits in to the story either.
So I think I will have to purchase a copy and read the book, as I did enjoy the last half of the book when things came together but I did find that I predicted all of the ‘twists’.
I also really can’t believe after everything that has happened she still gives her ex the time of day!!

One of the most exciting writers I’ve read in a long time. The story meanders in a real-life way, the characters are complex and whole and there is real wisdom here. The social media element is well-handled and I loved how all the minutiae of feelings are described with each post and like. The psychic mother character is incredible, I love her. Parts of the writing are achingly beautiful and feel like poetry. The writing is tight throughout and perfectly complemented by the narration.

The topic interested me but the main character (Jenny) and the story were too dull to keep me interested. It seemed that Jenny’s entire life consisted of herself, her anxiety which of course was fulled by her smartphone and social media. She seemed to do or think nothing about other people. I get it but for me, this was a boring listen. It might have been more enjoyable in print rather than audio as my eyes rolled and i switched off every time I heard Jenny’s tweets – punctuation marks too e.g. “question mark question mark question mark ..” “exclamation mark exclamation mark..”. I made it to the end but i have no idea really what the point of this book was

A 30 something in trendy London. Drawn into the vortex of social media until she loses her grip on what is real and important for her. Unconventional and a surprising ending. Loved the reader, just right for this character
