Two sons of a landlord came to their house for a stay and this was a bright opportunity for the girls of the house to impress any one of them and secure their future. The younger sister of Cassandra i.e Rose liked the younger brother but soon she changed her decision as she thought that the elder brother might have a bigger share in the property.
Thus Rose started alluring the elder brother and he was the same boy whom Cassandra liked as well. Jenny Agutter does not narrate any kind of tussle between the two sisters because Cassandra has a mature approach to life. Still, Cassandra thinks that giving up her love for the sake of her sister is not a good idea and she does not leave the competition at all.
