Neil Gaiman has been a very good writer and very few people know that the author is an equally good narrator. On rare occasions like this, the author also gives voice to his characters as well. Usually, the stories that the author writes have some old myths or strange happenings attached to them. The creepy feeling during The Sandman and Good Omens is still in the mind of most of the old fans.
BLACK DOG
This book shares the legend of a ghostly black dog that appears in front of a person a few moments before his death. In the rural northern villages, this legend is considered to be true and does not need any kind of verification.
The main character gets introduced at the start of the story and he is presented as a cool and calm person. When the couple in the village offers him a room to stay for the night he thinks that the offer is quite generous. The situation looks relaxed and the local tales seem to attract his attention more than usual.
But all of this changes very soon when the man starts feeling the creepiness in the air. He is sure that there is something strange about the place that can be felt and not told. The village is surrounded by strange shadows and no one is safe forever in this place. Neil from a very relax tone changes the style and the way of narration to show what he has kept hidden in the darkness of the village. The myth of the black dog finally becomes true and it is a sign of bad luck for the rest of the living souls in the village.
