Broken Promise (Limbo #1)

Parrish finds herself in the past learning the story of Karlie and Dominic and her place in all of it. It’s a bit paranormal with Parrish realizing that she’s a ghost whisperer but the bulk of the book is really the retelling of what happened to Karlie and then righting some things from the past.

There are some interesting twists and turns. The waterworks made an appearance toward the end in that bittersweet conclusion. I really enjoyed it including where Nick and Karlie “met”. The mob stuff was there but that was more of a side note, annoyance from her POV.

I switched between audio and visual. I liked the narrators, Amanda Stribling and David Black. I really like when the character voices remain constant regardless of POV and that happens here.

I’ll start by saying this wasn’t my typical read but I thought I’d give it a shot. Boy, talk about a surprise! The story takes you from one person to another and immerses you so completely, you forgot how you got here! Two distinct story lines tied together in a mystery of hidden secrets. I loved the story development between Karlie and Dominic but I think he was the most developed character, or maybe I loved his traits more. This is definitely a page turner and I think you’ll be happy you started this journey!

I like that this veered away from a generic romance and dug into a much deeper story. The characters were well developed and I was intrigued to find out how it would unfold. Although some of the dialogue was forced and unrealistic, the mystery kept me going. The ending was decent, a maybe a bit disappointing in its overly devoted lovers claim but the epilogue was well done with a nice set up for future stories.

I love the concept and plot here. After a terrible car accident Parrish discovers she has a special gift. She can not only see and talk to dead people, but can actually experience their lives. She is to use her gift to help those spirits holding on, complete their business and move to the light.

Nice mob story with erie undertones.

This is a well-written, complex romance with paranormal features that enhance rather than drive the plot. Too many paranormal stories depend on what rather than who the characters are. Smith’s story is a refreshingly creative variation on a genre glutted with vampires and werewolves (there aren’t any here). Instead, these are introspective human beings in extraordinary circumstances. Great read.
