The first part was exciting but like all other starting books it had a lot of incomplete thoughts. Usually, the authors like Gregg Hurwitz use this technique to make people more interested in the series. So this is not a weakness rather it is a technique that is being implied to make the work tempting like a drug.
Every listener wants to know who the Nowhere Man is and why is he helping others and running from those who once created him.

Whether he had any family or not is unknown and nobody is searching for it at all. The man who was after him in Orphan X wanted his life apparently and then the audience gets the hint that he was in search of something more which cannot be explained. One thing is clear i.e the Nowhere Man has something which the hidden group of scientists wants, something which he is yet to find out.
Evan Smoak now known as the Nowhere Man shares the story of his first mission in this novel and with it, the listeners get the chance to know about the past of the man. It is the past that makes all of us curious about this guy with the ultimate powers to kill and survive. Scott Brick gears up for The Nowhere Man after which there would only be active in the tale because talking is just a waste of time according to the Nowhere Man. The main character means business and he will get to his targets before they get to him for an investigation of his deeds and his decisions which he made as a free man.
