I love the 1st Anita Blake books! I love the mysteries, the qualities of Anita and the hints of the romance to come. I love the zombie raisings, the vampires and even the werewolves. When the books started there was always a good mystery to be solved and I even liked some of the bad guys. From the beginning I always like Jean Claude he had a unique quality to him, he makes you love and hate him. I hate that the later books just become an ode to how beautiful Anita is and repeat the same story back over and over. Most people who read the books have read them in order we don’t need a repeat of each character almost word for word, I feel like the first chapter is usually just telling the same thing again. It makes me nostalgic for her first few books. I love Circus of the Damned, I love Edward and all his guns and flamethrower. I love the different bad guys and not knowing who Anita can trust. I’ve read most of Anita’s stories and keep hoping to get back to Guilty Pleasures, Lunatic Cafe and Circus of the Damned. Maybe someday the bee books will live up to the beginnings.

Circus of the Damned audiobook in series Anita Blake
I first read Circus of the Damned by Laurell K. Hamilton back in 2009. Now its 2020, and Im glad I got a chance to reread it because I couldnt remember this book. It was like reading the book for the first time. It was great to read this book, feeling like its brand new. Anita is dealing with Jean-Claude still on giving her the last two marks to be his human servant. Anita is again saying no. Unfortunately, shes got to deal with other Master Vampires in her city now that want her as their human servant. They dont believe that Jean-Claude is strong enough to be the Master Vampire of the City. Anita is going to deal with some vampire politics in this book. Shes also going to be introduced to some furry shifters that she has no idea that is close to Jean-Claude. In comes Stephen, a werewolf and Richard Zeeman, a Junior High School teacher who teaches Science. He has a secret, though, that he is keeping from Anita in the book. Shes bound to find out about this secret, though.
I enjoyed this book just like I did the first time. It was strange reading it again and feeling lost at first. It had been such a long time reading this book. There was a lot of trouble in this book for Anita. I felt terrible for her. She had no idea what she was in the middle of until it was too late. Lets not forget about Jean-Claude. I love his character, even though he keeps secrets from Anita. He is trying to save her in this book, and also though she is stubborn. Although I do see why Anita fights him, if you read the first book, you would find out that Jean-Claude marked her twice, so she was halfway to being his human servant. She didnt consent to it, which is why shes mad at him. This book shell deal with some stronger Master Vampires that can force her to do things she doesnt want to do.
Im glad I got reintroduced to Richard from the beginning. Hes never been a favorite character of mine in the series. He was okay in the beginning, but later on, hes going to drive me crazy. Hes already got the point against him from keeping a secret from Anita in this book.
Be prepared for an epic battle at the end of the book. Anita gets caught up in it all, and her life hangs in the balance. I give this book 4.5-stars and recommend it to fans of Urban Fantasy and PNR. This book has no sex in it. You will read some tension in the book, though.

Circus of the Damned audiobook by Laurell K. Hamilton
I was introduced to this series by a good friend . That is of course after I had been introduced to series books in general. At the time, I think there were only 6 or 7 books in this series. It mirrored so much of how my view of people in general are. I studied forensic psychology in college. So I already had blinders off. But it has been a long time since I have read the series from start to the newest book, which is now book 27, I decided to do just that. Plus now I have gone to almost exclusively e-books, and I review all I read. So I love reading the new additions at the end of these ebooks, where this author talks about the books. I doubt this author reads all the reviews, but I want to include a thank you for her writing.

Circus of the Damned audio narrated by Kimberly Alexis
Excellent read. Amazon, I hate your “review” process. When I give a product 5 stars it means that service and quality were excellent. If I give four stars or less, I say why. You make it necessary to write out a headline and a product review before I can submit my 5 star rating. I would not accept this waste of my time from any store I go to in person. I know that your sellers are rated on the results of buyers’ reviews or if they even get a review. I want those I buy from to get their due. You make it hard for me by wasting my time

I’ve read the book at least four times. Glad to have a digital copy since I keep loaning out my paperbacks and have to buy replacements. The first three or four Anita Blake books are the best of the bunch and still in my top five series to read more than once. Good storyline. Believable and distinct characters. The writing is fun to read. If you like contemporary fantasy and aren’t burnt out on vampires and werewolves, you should like Anita Blake. A mature spin to an already saturated topic that makes it stand out in the crowd.
