Last year I started reading the Dark/Carpathian series by Christine Feehan since I was looking for another Fated Mates series. Now Im finally getting to the third book in the series thanks to the #Romanceopoly Challenge.
Female Protagonist: Alexandria Houton is an orphaned young woman trying to raise and protect her younger brother. She drove me crazy in the story because she kept putting herself at risk so many times. She didnt want to believe what everyone was telling her when it came to Aidan being her destined mate and trying to protect her. I did like how protective she was to her little brother. She wanted what was best for him, but her choices were questionable. She was hardheaded and stubborn when it came to Aidan, though, and that is what drove me crazy with her. She did redeem herself when she helped save Aidan from an attack.
Male Protagonist: Aidan Savage is one of the ageless Carpathians who hunts the evil vampires that come into his city. Hes forced to live not in his homeland because of human hunters wanting to kill his kind. Hes one alpha male in the story, especially after he realizes that Alexandria is his fated mate. Im not sure if I love Aidans character, but I did like his patience when it came to Alexandria. I dont think I wouldve had patience with her. Aidan had a lot of patience!
Storyline: Alexandria has no idea that a job interview is going to turn into something else at the beginning of the book. She ends up getting herself captured by an evil creature with her younger brother. She didnt know these evil creatures (aka Vampires) existed until now. Her world is going to be turned upside down due to the Vampire, but she has an unknown savior save her and her little brother. Unfortunately, she ends up treating this savior as one of the evil vampires. Aidan helps her through what is going to happen to her. He also will help her realize what she is to him. Not only will Aidan have to take in Alexandria and her little brother, but also deal with further vampires that keep wanting to attack Aidan over Alexandria. This story had some moments where there were quite a bit of action-packed scenes. Its bound to happen when a Carpathian is trying to protect his mate in the story. There was one incident in the story that freaked me out, and that is with another Carpathian shows up. Hes the one I cant wait to read his book.
Steaminess: I consider this book mild with steaminess compared to the other books Ive read so far in this series.
Cliffhanger: No.
Standalone or Series: Its part of a series. Each follows a new couple.
Trope: Fated Mates.
Do I recommend this book? I would recommend this to readers that are Christine Feehan fans and love Paranormal Romance. If you also love the Fated Mates tropes, then I would recommend these books to you too. Im liking these books, but not falling in love with them as I have with Kresley Coles IAD series and J.R. Wards BDB series. Im not giving up, though. Im hoping to find my favorite couple in the series. I will say this its not your sparkly kind of vampire story, so get that out of your head before reading this series. Christine Feehan writes her vampire/Carpathian stories with darkness in it, which is one of many reasons why Im going to keep reading these books.

Dark Gold audiobook in series Dark
Alexandria Houton is fiercely independent and has sacrificed a lot in order to care and provide for her younger brother. Her intense drawings land her the opportunity to work with a top gaming company. Imagination clashes with reality as she finds herself held captive by a vampire. Aidan Savage has hunted vampires for centuries but he has just encountered his greatest challenge yet. Dark Gold is the third book the Dark Series.
Dark Gold can be read as a stand alone book. The story has an intense and gripping beginning. However it loses a lot of it’s momentum as the focus shifts to Alexandria coming to terms with her new way of life. I got annoyed with the extensive self loathing and slow romantic development.
It was a bit off putting that love rivals were given so much attention. Though it made Aidan become more memorable for being patient and supportive. Especially compared to other male leads in the series.
I loved the supporting characters in the story. Alexandria’s little brother and Aidan’s staff were so endearing. I wish the story had given them all more time to be a family.
I enjoyed the last part of the story. By then Alexandria and Aidan’s characters seemed to settle into place. I wish more of the story was of them being a loving couple. The action scenes were good and I liked how it took into account other dangers they had to face.

Dark Gold audiobook by Christine Feehan
If it wasn’t for Aiden, Joshua and Aidens family i wouldn’t of continued reading. Alex was awful, absolutely rude and at times down right mean when talking to Aiden. She actually annoyed me through the whole book, she cared for her brother but yet was so ready to be reckless. You can clearly tell she was young and abnoxious. She can find a man a human man yet Aiden gives her everything she could ever want, takes care of her brother and makes her feel amazing yet she continued to be stupid. So frustrating ughhhhh

Dark Gold audio narrated by Abby Craden
Ugggh. That is the closest word in the English language to describe my feelings towards this book. It is also the word I utter over and over reading the books in this series. I have read every book in this series up to this one and they are all the same. An annoying female who commits stupid assinine acts, repeatedly announcing she is independent; self sufficient; doesn’t need/want/care for a man etc. Basically every female this author writes is an obnoxious man hating feminist who does everything possible to run off the male character. At several points while reading this book I found myself palming my forehead, fast forwarding and imploring the male lead to run, run fast in the opposite direction from the mean, angry, man hating female the author stuck him with. I won’t be reading anymore of this series and that is sad because I love paranormal romance. I am always looking for a great PR series to read and this series has over 20 books! Unfortunately the books are just terrible. The female leads are so poorly written they actually ruin a novel that otherwise would be an enjoyable read.

Wonderful. She will do anything to save her brother. He is from another race, tall and a hunk. When she and her little brother are attacked, he swoops in to save her. She is wary of him, having already been attacked before by a vampire (a member of his race that has succumbed to the dark when they think that they will never find their soulmate). Can he keep them both safe from a very determined vampire who wants her back? Will she ever trust him and his race? A stupendous read with great characters and plot that pull you into the story. I first got a hard copy when this first came 5and an so addicted to the series that my copy has fallen apart – hence a digital copy.
