\”Scared, little miko?\” \”Wont they want to eat me?\” \”Probably.\” Amaterasu has charged Emi with an urgent mission: to find and free the earthly gods before mankind is brought to its knees beneath divine tyranny. When Emi first saved Shiro\’s life, she could never have imagined that behind his cunning and confidence, he was losthis power bound by a devastating curse and his memories obscured. His veiled history is somehow tied to the missing gods, but he can\’t remember how or why. As their search leads them into the murky depths of the spirit realm, the shadows of Shiro\’s past begin to emerge. With each brief awakening of his true self, she loses a little more of him. The fate of the heavens and earth rest in her mortal hands, and she must find the missing gods before time runs out for her worldand for Shiro. \”What about death is to be feared? The burdens of life can be so great that it would be a comfort to know that someday it will end that someday, we will have earned the final rest.\” Marie wastes no time with kicking off the action in this second installment to the Red Winter Trilogy and boy HOWDY I don\’t think I\’ve ever cheered so hard when a female MC found her spine. YAS QUEEN. YOU TELL THEM. Also, I don\’t know if it\’s because I\’m so familiar with anime elements, or the author is also versed with anime elements, but throughout all the action scenes my mind was playing this out as an anime in my head. AND IT\’S GLORIOUS. I can\’t wait for book three. SQUEE! \”She had given up everything for duty, even her life. But this this she couldnt sacrifice, not even to save the world.\” Japanese lore and fantasy romance lovers will be left well satisfied.

I FLOVE Annette Marie!!! Dark Tempest, yes, please! My God this book, this series, has stolen my heart and soul. Red Winter was amazing but Dark Tempest, obliterated it in the best possible way. Emi is not just strong and courageous but she is the purest form of love. Shiro, OMG, LOVE HIM! He is even better than he was in Red Winter. You learn more about him in Dark Tempest. Shiro and Emi together, yeah, let\’s just say Dark Tempest doesn\’t disappoint. Yumei is just as hot, yummm. I absolutely loved every word in Dark Tempest. I found myself laughing, cheering, and even crying. The side characters just wow. Annette Marie really does a fantastic job building worlds but also the depth of each character. You become so engorged in the story and their lives you want to scream when it\’s over because it feels likes it\’s only been a short time when it\’s been hours. I can\’t wait for Immortal Fire. Mad props to Annette Marie for another bada$$ series! Now, I also want to give mad props to Brittany Jackson on her beautiful illustrations that made Dark Tempest come to life! Just beautiful work Brittany<3

Audiobook Dark Tempest (Red Winter Trilogy #2) by Annette Marie
Love this series and can\’t understand why the books aren\’t more well-known. The second book starts the story right back up so you need to read Book 1 in order to understand what is going on. Emi is starting to grow into her power more, and the romance intensifies between her and Shiro in a way that doesn\’t feel forced. Shiro takes care of her, but Emi also protects him as well and they both respect each other\’s decisions even if they disagree. I hate when romance books have story lines where the female protagonist does something foolish and the male has to go save her, and I\’m so glad the author doesn\’t use those types of pot devices. Emi is very much a heroine in her own right, and she is integral part of the \”hero group\” throughout the trilogy. The background of Japan is fanfiction-y without being too anime cringe. (Although I personally did not like the illustrations interspersed throughout the books, I think I\’m in the minority there) I enjoyed the way the author described the different worlds and characters; it was very easy to imagine what they all would look like. On the off-chance the author randomly stumbles across my review, I really had fun with these and I\’d love to have more books like them. If you could make your next series more adult and less YA, that would be even better!

Audio Dark Tempest (Red Winter Trilogy #2) narrated by Emily Woo Zeller
An absolutely brilliant book I felt everything Emi did, her sadness, her anger, her resolve, her fear, most importantly her love for Shiro. The only criticism is that it\’s all in Emi\’s perspective, I\’d like to know what Shiro thinks and feels. . Other then that I highly recommend this book. Happy reading.

Another amazing instalment in Annette\’s series of works! I have absolutely adored the entire concept of this series and have thoroughly enjoyed reading. Emi has really developed as a character and grown stronger in her independence throughout this book and it was lovely to see a sort of \’team\’ building as the relationships between new and old characters developed. I loved reading this book and cannot wait for book three in the series. Definitely not one to be missed! Thank you for writing such fabulous stories for us to read Annette!
