This is another one of my favorite mystery series! Andy Carpenter is a very likable and entertaining character. I really had a great time reading it. This series is rather unique in that I don’t think it is actually all that necessary to read these in order. Obviously, that’s the preferred order – but these are pretty self-contained. This one would definitely work as a standalone! It showed all the wit and charm of the very first book in the series. Milo is a particularly great new character. I am just a sucker for dog books – especially dog mysteries, and this is one of the better series, I think! They are always fun and fast!

Dog Tags audiobook in series Carpenter Series
Now, back to the story. I think this is the first book in which “good guys” that are acquainted with Andy do not get killed or hurt. Only Kevin leaves the scene, alive. Next to no Vince in this book and Charlie’s is closed for repairs. Otherwise, the story is pretty good. Not many twists, or rather unpredictable twists. Rosenfelt’s books are light reading, but “fun.” considering people, in this book, bad ones get killed off left and right. A usual, Andy has some trouble with judges, beats up on prosecutor’s, makes money for his clients, annoys the FBI, feeds Tara too many biscuits, and is oversexed when it comes to Laurie…but, you can’t blame the guy if Laurie is as good as the descriptions are written. There was little song-talk/movie-talk between Sam and Andy. That’s good. It gets tiresome rapidly. Willie was a lot more involved in this book playing investigator. Good move. This one was a decent read, but I still want chapters on the Kindle.

Audiobook Dog Tags by David Rosenfelt
I love and Andy Carpenter books. A friend told me about them a couple of weeks ago and I am already on book 11. They are interesting, entertaining and a good read before bed. I hope he hurries and writes enough to keep ahead of me as I am loving the books and have recommended them to other friends. You can’t go wrong with Andy and Tara.

Audio Dog Tags narrated by Grover Gardner
As always, David Rosenfelt has written an absolute winner. Great story with suspense, terrific humor throughout, and characters you just have to love! It’s always a joy to open up a book in the Andy Carpenter mystery series. Although the author will fill you in, you’ll get so much more out of these books if you read them in order, and thus follow the over-arching story of the core characters.

I ran across this series and was happy to discover that there are something like 25 titles in the series. I have been reading Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs series (also excellent) but I ran out and will have to wait a year or so for the next title. But with Andy Carpenter series I shouldn’t have that problem. The author has already embarked on a follow on series. And if you are a dog lover you’re really going to love these books.
Rosenfelt’ books are always interesting reads. This one is no exception. It’s a deviation from his typical story line, but is still solid. As always, the dialogue is terrific. I gave it only four stars because this book includes some unnessary violence. This book is much darker than his earlier stories. I somehow had the impression that he felt like he had to “step it up a notch”, to the distraction of the story.
