I have tried, over and over I’ve tried. Todd is definitely NOT his mother, he seriously lacks the talent to create his own story, he can only rehash the same story over and over while pretending it’s something new just because it’s from three (now four) different character’s point of view. If he had skipped the garbage, the repetitive filler, his continual rehashing of the same thing (see? I can do it too…) and wrote just one book not four from different angles and POV’s (talking Dragon Kin, Dragon Blood, Dragon Harper, and now Dragon Girl.. not in that order obviously 🙂 ) I’d have loved his work and his talent.
As it is now? With each new book written with the same storyline, forget it. I’ve requested a refund (gotta love Amazon’s Customer Satisfaction Guarantee) and I will NEVER buy another Dragonrider book by Todd (actually… any book written by him) especially if it’s a series. I plan to pretend (love “My” imagination?) that he never wrote a single Dragonrider book without his wonderful and talented mother.

Dragongirl audiobook in series Original Dragonriders of Pern (abridged)
Sadly, Todd McCaffrey is not the writer or storyteller his mother was. It is also very obvious that he has either not read, not retained or simply doesnt care about the stories and world his mother created. There are so many glaring errors in his writing that jar a longtime Pern fan out of the story, because he throws things in the story that cant happen on Pern per his mothers detailed stories. That and his changing the way the Dragons are supposed to behave just doesnt sit right with many long time fans of this world.
This particular story now makes the Pern series questionable for preteens, who this series was developed for. It appears to be little more than this man’s sexual fantasies and is a tremendous disappointment for people who were really looking forward to another look at the wonderful world of Pern.

Dragongirl audiobook by Anne McCaffrey
Here’s the whole book in one sentence: The dragons are dying in Threadfall, leaving too few dragons to fight the Pass, and everyone should be in a polyamorous relationship. That’s it. Those two ideas are brought up about every three pages for the whole book. I kept waiting for any kind of resolution or plot progress, but it didn’t happen, even at the end. Don’t buy this book like I did. Get it from the library. If it’s not at the library, no worries – just read the sentence above hundreds of times, and you’ve got it covered. I won’t reread it. I generally don’t leave negative book reviews, but this book left me feeling annoyed and frustrated.

Dragongirl audio narrated by Adrienne Barbeau
‘ll simply reiterate what several other readers have mentioned: this book is poorly-poorly-written and lacks character development and depth. The author seems to introduce a new character in every third paragraph, yet never does much more than give us a sort of “”name, rank, and serial number” description, making for dull and ponderous reading, as well as general confusion as to just what tale, exactly, he is trying to tell. If this is the best that Ms. Mccaffrey’s designated heir can manage, then I fear that Pern effectively died with its creator.

Sorry Todd, I couldnt finish it. Following you and your mothers work from the beginning I understand that Weyrs are a little lax…but honestly the sexual exploits of a clearly underage Fiona was starting to creep me out.
The need to have a full bed of anyone so you can fall asleep is just weird.
If I excuse all that, you have kinda fallen into what I refer to as the Stephen King paradox. While he is a good storyteller his tendencies to ramble on for chapters about absolutely nothing that adds to the storyline makes one want to bang their head against a wall repeatedly….makes me glad they turn his books into movies.
A red pen turns them into the short story they should have been in the beginning.
A whole story revolving around the Internal monologue of one character becomes mind numbing. Its been trending this way with the whole Lorana-Fiona series, I honestly just got bored. Never, ever happened to me in a Pern series book.
I know, we are all horrible critics. Sorry Im just bummed growing up with the series I loved.
How about going forward with the storyline, Im sure you and your Mum had discussions on where you guys wanted to take it.
