I thought this was going to be a good book. The writing seemed good. But I got a couple chapters in, and the main female lead is ashamed of the guy, Riggs, because he doesn’t come from a good family. She doesn’t even want to be seen with him when he just rescued her butt from being stranded on the side of the road. Frankly, after that, I couldn’t have any respect for the girl. I’m sure she must change her mind, but right there I felt like she was a crappy person. First impressions stick with me.

Always enjoy Julie Kriss’ work, but this one had a few points that bothered me. Mainly, it was the female lead. She was abrasive, at the best of times, and while that is an interesting character quirk at times, in this one, it went on to the point that it started to make her unlikeable, especially when she constantly doubted the hero, and his intentions, and even to the point of making him feel like she was embarrassed to be seen with him. I get the criminal element, and her being caught in the middle, as her mother was a police officer, but it still got tiresome. In the end, she improved, and the moment at the end, in the salon, was super sweet and sexy. Loved it.

Audiobook Drive Me Wild (Riggs Brothers #1) by Julianne MacLean
I haven’t read anything my Julie Kriss before and after reading Buyer Beware, this won’t be my last. After seeing that it was a girl meets boy from the wrong side of the tracks book, I expected it to be run of the mill and while it was a bit predictable, I really enjoyed it. The writing was good enough to stop it from falling into the trap of blending into other similar books. Emily and Luke hooked up over summer break when they finished school, ending the tryst with her going to college and him leaving town. Their time together was kept a secret between them as he was from a disjointed, poor and rough family and she was the straight A daughter of a popular police officer. Circumstances have Emily unwillingly having to return home to help her sister with her shop and her association with Luke is rekindled. While Emily moves in with her parents, she senses that not all is good at home with her family. Luke has his own troubles going on as his father has been sent to prison and he is left taking over his garage that has the potential to have him rooming with his dad in jail.
I really liked Luke. He wasn’t insipid, nor a jerk alpha, while being a strong, swoon-worthy male lead. He had his own baggage, but was likeable. His relationship with his family members was fragmented and it was refreshing to read a book where not everything was sunshine and rainbows. Emily was likeable overall. My only hangup was that she didn’t want to be seen with Luke in public, which kind of decreased his self-value and made her a bit of a snob. She wasn’t an outright cow, though, so I warmed up to her eventually.
I found the writing good and the plot fluid. The story line had enough going that I was interested throughout the book and sucked in enough to their world that I’ll want to read the next book. It was a feel good story.

Audio Drive Me Wild (Riggs Brothers #1) narrated by Antony Ferguson
This was so good!! I read Julie’s previous billionaire series and loved it so when I heard there was another series I immediately knew I had to read it! While second chances are not my go-to reads, Luke and Emily’s story was really special! There was a lot of background in this book but it was necessary because this is the first in a series of standalones revolving around a group of four brothers. I really like the sneak peeks I got in this book of each of the other brothers! I’m just really excited for this series and what it will bring!!!!

Drive Me Wild is a fast read with great characters. I wished it was a little longer so it could have gone into more depth because the story and characters were interesting and well drawn. Emily and Luke have sizzling chemistry, but they feel trapped by their good girl and bad boy roles thanks to their families.
Im glad this went on sale so that I could read it. I miss a lot of Julie Kriss books because I wont pay $4 for less than 200 pages. Hopefully Ill get a chance to read more of this series in the future.
