Opening Thoughts: Dust is a good book, and I like how Kara fleshed out the character of Peter Pan. The book definitely had a whimsical and magical feel to it, but also contained thoughtful themes, and a beautiful message. While I didnt love DUST, I did like it and will probably be buying the sequel. Plot: Unfortunately, I was not hooked right away, and it wasnt till about Chapter 8 that I got really excited. While there were times where it kept me turning the page, that wasnt the case most of the time. While it wasn\’t a pull an all-nighter, it was interesting. Additionally, DUST was not predictable and there were definitely surprises! For me, the pacing was fine. Personally, I probably wouldve liked it to be a little faster. Also, one of the things that I found disappointing, was that the big reveal near the end felt a bit anticlimactic. The reveal was still a surprise, it just wasnt as big as I thought it was going to be. Character(s): Alas, I wasnt able to really relate to Claire. However, she is a sympathetic character. I ended up gravitating toward Peter Pan a bit because of his cheeky personality, as well as him just being more relatable. Peter, unlike the classic one, was a character I found more likable and complex. He was a fun person to follow and I think the author did a good job on staying true to the original but building on it and giving him much more depth. So, big plus on that one! There were also other characters that were quite likable, and while Hook didnt stand out to me a lot, I think we might get a better glimpse of him in the sequel. In addition, character development was good and realistic, and the tension between Peter and Claire was pretty great. Content: Magic, mild violence, and some name calling. DUST does include some dark moments for a character (however, theyre not super dark and light/truth prevails). Message/theme: The message and themes are positive, deep and beautiful. Overall opinion: This was a fun and whimsical read. Nevertheless, this was not fluff, and Id encourage you to keep an eye out for these thoughtful and meaningful messages. Overall, I think the author did well in taking her own spin on the story, giving it a modern twist but keeping the magic. I also liked how she tactfully weaved in God without being preachy. Id recommend/not recommend: This was a good book. I think there are people who would enjoy it and could really resonate with it. I may not have loved it, but I think people who like Peter Pan, magic, and meaningful stories, would enjoy this. So yes, Id recommend it! *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.

In a word exquisite. In another word enchanting. Oh, one more word twisted. In a very good way! Kara Swanson takes the beloved story of Peter Pan and lifts it to new heights. With a deft and skilled hand, Swanson cuts through the middle of the tale and wisely crams it full of wit, whimsy, and wonderful possibilities. This is one I wanted to savor, but I couldnt help it. Much like the allure adventure was to Pan, Dust grabbed me by the imagination and refused to let go. Favorite characters take on new life and surprises wait around every corner. Im eager to read the sequel! So, Ill be watching the second star from the right and straight on to Shadowcoming summer 2021!

Audiobook Dust (Heirs of Neverland #1) by Kara Swanson
Favorite read of 2020 so far. This book fulfilled every single one of my expectations–magical, fun, sweet, romantic, a little bit of heart break, and a lot of pixie dust! Peter Pan was never really my favorite fairy tale, but this retelling… it\’s amazing. Peter Pan, of course, is struggling with growing up. He has the same mischievous streak as in the classic tale, but this is a more realistic take on the tale. There are consequences to Peter\’s mischievous streak (that\’s often quite cruel to others), and those consequences have left him without his shadow and without his Tink and without his Neverland. But Peter isn\’t the only magical being. Enter Claire Kenton, a beautiful soul. Broken and full of magic that can either heal or destroy. Peter and Claire fully encapsulated my own feelings regarding growing up and taking on responsibility. Becoming an adult is terrifying as there is so much to learn and so much change. But as this book teaches, there\’s a different kind of magic of being an adult. I absolutely adore this story and would highly recommend it to those who love YA fantasy. **received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

English/Espaol From the first chapter I went back to my childhood, I loved the movies, I watched them over and over again (although I must admit that I never read the books). Kara Swanson\’s writing is amazing, although if you are just beginning to learn English I recommend having a dictionary/translator handy because its a bit heavy. Peter and Claire, both struggling with their past in different ways, Lily always there to offer help. Each of the characters is excellently developed; Claire, struggling with the lies trying to find herself; Peter, an immature boy dealing with past, present and future problems; Lily, a great ally and friend, a simple and complicated character at the same time. I wish Lily had participated more in the story, she is a great friend. [ SPOILER REVIEW ] Now, about Tink … why?! I would have really liked her appearance. I don\’t understand why I didn\’t see the cliffhanger coming… I NEED THE SECOND BOOK!
