Darth Bane’s story comes to a new turn because of his greed for power which now seems to be endless. Two decades have passed since Darth defeated the Dark Lord and took his place in the universe. After that Darth changed the whole ruling structure, he selected an apprentice for himself who will one day defeat him and take his place.
Seeing the apprentice in training the Dark Lord starts thinking of his demise which appears to be near. So instead of challenging the apprentice in competition, he starts planning to gain immortality. Somewhere in the universe, dark information is hidden which could give the bearer the power to live and rule forever.

Darth sends his apprentice Zannah to a far off planet on a sluggish mission so that he can sneak on to his desire in her absence. The girl also has doubts about her master so instead of going for an investigation, she starts planning to overthrow her master in his absence. She hires a Jedi as her new apprentice and starts acting like the Dark Lord while he is away. For true control, however, she needs the head of Darth which she can show to the world of Sith.
The author Drew Karpyshyn gives Zannah another ally in the form of Princess Serra whose father was killed by the Dark Lord twenty years ago. Since then the princess has been desperate for revenge from the one who took everything away from her. If you have read Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan and Path of Destruction then you already know what is coming to you at the climax. Still, the worthy voice of Jonathan Davis is there in the narration to raise your emotions even for a Dark Lord.
