But it is a really long, dark, misogynist tunnel. This book doesn’t carry the story forward. There still is no romance to be found, and flirts with consent/nonconsent but in a way that I really don’t like. There are no male leads who appreciate a strong female lead. And the strong female lead is hard to like.

The kicker is, the books ends with Mac getting gang raped by 4 faeries. That was it for me. I was tempted to DNF the book, wish I had, and I am definitely DNFing the series. This series is obviously well-loved by many, but this world is not for me.

Faefever audiobook in series Fever

Mac is going through a lot of inner turmoil, as she finds herself torn between being the Mac from Georgia, who loves all think pink and rainbow, compared to who she is becoming in Ireland with Barrons. Mac has to decide how much to trust Barrons and what he is training he is providing her with. She is constantly uncovering more and more information, making her second guess her trust in others.

Karen Marie Moning is simply brilliant. She quickly sucks the reader into this world that she fills with imagery and excitement. She does an amazing job at building characters that the reader will love to hate. Just when you think you know what may happen next, there’s an enjoyable twist thrown in, keeping you always on your toes, flipping pages to find out more.

In case you haven’t read it before, this is one of my most favorite urban fantasy series. This is a series you can read over and over again, and still be enthralled in the story, as if it were your first time reading through.

So far there has not been a book in this series that I did not finish, and not instantly start the next book in the series. Definitely another 5/5 from Karen Marie Moning.

Faefever audiobook by Karen Marie Moning

This series is so good. I am so glad it is still as wonderful now as it was when I first read it. Five stars isn’t enough to show how good it is.

Pay attention to the prologue in this series. There is also a lot of foreshadowing throughout the book and series.

In this book there is a lot of groundwork laid out for what is to come and ends on the worst thing possible happening. It gets crazy and dark..but the darkness doesn’t end. It gets worse and better. All the characters grow.

We still don’t learn what Barrons is yet in this book, but if you are like me, that only keeps you going.

KMM does a fantastic job of keeping us in Mac’s head. We only know what she knows, what she thinks, what she feels. Good and bad, I know.

Mac is a flawed character, but she’s changing. Things happen and she adapts. She is change.

Barrons seems sketchy sometimes and I get it.
I would probably be a little paranoid too if I were Mac. But, Barrons should be judged on actions over words.

V’lane tries to romance Mac. He tries to understand, but he isn’t perfect. None of them are. No one is. His effort makes him seem almost human sometimes.

Gah, this book’s ending slayed me for the couple days I had to wait for the next to be delivered from Amazon back when I first read the series. Hopefully others will have them lined up ready to go.

There are so many things that happen that seem insignificant but aren’t.

The series has its usual maps, shows the characters tattoos, has a soundtrack, a glossary, recipes (lol), and a pronunciation guide.

Read it. Your life will be more interesting with Barrons in your brain.

4.5 Stars!

Because I couldnt possibly write a review for each of these books individually, this is a review of the original Fever series (books 1 through 5). Not only would it be too difficult to review them on an individual basis, but it just wasnt going to happen because I couldnt stop long enough between books to even be bothered to write a review. I devoured these books.

This is so not my cup of tea. Im a traditional girl. I like believability, relatability, and normalcy. I like original and unique stories but ones that could happen in real life. Fantasy or paranormal? Usually, we dont mesh. This series is definitely an exception.

It did have drawbacks. It was long, at times very drawn out (mostly toward the end), and thoroughly confusing. I know it was the authors intention to keep us guessing and on the edge of our seats, but it got to the point where I had hardly any idea what was going on and it became frustrating. There are so many different facets to this story, so many unnatural laws at play, that its hard to keep everything straight. The game is constantly changing, theres so many players, and the board is unfathomably large. Every time you think youre winning, Moning has rewritten the rules.

But in her defense, it does keep you interested. You become desperate to know what happens. You root for good to trump evil and you rethink what it means to be either one. I was so drawn in to this story and the unforgettable, gripping characters.

Mac and Barrons are damn near perfection. Their chemistry is like nothing Ive ever experienced between two characters. This is the ultimate slow burn. It doesnt get any slower and hotter than these two. Their tension is so powerful. They make you feel so much by doing and saying next to nothing. They are unforgettable.

Take a step out of your comfort zone and read these books. You need to experience this world and these characters. Karen Marie Monings imagination is a work of art. I think if my brain was capable of creating a story of this magnitude, Id go insane. Its probably why she writes. Lucky for us.

This is the third time I’ve read this book and since the first read my opinion has changed quite a bit. I loved the highlander series KMM wrote, so I kept going with this book even if I wasn’t sure. This is a review for the first five books in this series which kind of makes one story arc.
Mac is a strange character, on one hand she is naive and immature and on the other hand she is grown up and powerful. The switch between these two sides is interesting and made me want to keep reading. I didn’t like Barrons until much later, definitely not for the first three books. I start to like him a lot more after book five.
Side characters weren’t as interesting, but the introduction of some of the highlanders in the fever series was interesting. I loved seeing some of them again. Overall this series is growing with every book and even though the first book isn’t one of my favourites, the entire series did become my favourite.
