Fat Girl Slim Returns (Fat Girl Slim #2)

Such an enjoyable read, the characters are great. Now that Alison is ‘slim’ she is trapped once again – but not by her mother, this time Alison is engaged in the trappings of celebrity, having written a best selling diet book (which is available for 14.99!) I enjoyed getting to know Alison a bit better, she is the product of her mother’s emotionally unavailable ways. I loved Alison’s only friend, Doris she has a new job and transformation. She becomes the best, tolerant friend anyone could ever wish for – I actually thought Alison did not deserve her at one point. I nearly wept over what happened with Gerald, but finally, Alison’s personality grew rather than her bottom. Marina Johnson’s writing is entertaining and hilarious, protagonist Alison’s first-person narration allows us readers to find out what she really thinks- some wonderful human observations of the modern world and suspense created by Alison’s lies.

I loved Fat Girl Slim and this was an excellent sequel. I love the fact that Alison isnt perfect and has a dark side to her character- I can relate to this type of character more than a goody two shoes underdog does well type – much more human and interesting reading (or maybe Ive just got cynical in my old age!). If you enjoyed the first book, then youre likely to enjoy this one too. Please can we have more characters like her Marina?

I really enjoyed this sequel to Fat Girl Slim. We meet many of the same characters, even Bella gets a mention, but theyve all moved on, and how. Alison has everything shes ever wanted, minus Mother, and thinks she should be happy. Doris is restyled as Doe now, and Gerald has helped Alison start her new venture. But Alison, despite trying to be good, just cannot pull it off, completely. She says she wont tell any more lies, but cannot stop herself. The humour is dark and delicious in this sequel and I just loved the ending. Definitely recommend.

Great story, but you really have to read Fat Girl Slim first as this follows very closely. Loved it. Recommended.

I read the first fat girl slim and although I enjoyed it, I didn’t particularly like the main character Alison. But I wanted to know what happened to her. I thoroughly enjoyed her return. Alison isn’t perfect, but I actually started to find her quite relatable. A really good book.
