Reduced to half pay and sent to attend to her steading on Grayson, Honor Harrington dives in to her work. Her sense of duty and responsibility, along with the quality people there, makes for major progress. As if she didn’t have enough on her plate, she’s asked to help the Grayson Navy during its explosive growth with her wealth of knowledge and experience. All the while adversaries plot to discredit her and remove any influence she might have on the social changes happening across the planet. Men of poor character, determined to see her and the changes associated with her to an abrupt halt. The Peeps have their own plans to sow discord and ruin the day for the Manticorans and their allies. She just wants to do her job and duties to the best of her ability. Her enemies are determined to keep that from happening. They seem to overlook one very important fact… She’s Honor Harrington, and they aren’t. I strongly urge you to read the previous four novels in this series before you read this one. Then read this one, it will make more sense and you’ll be glad that you did.

Flag in Exile audiobook in series Honor Harrington

I cant believe these books can continue to be as good as the ones the previous ones, but they continue to be so. Honor Harrington is one of the best characters of all time. She has endured so much but life continues to ask more of her. She rises to the challenges with grace, fortitude, and the uniqueness of being Honor. She is the female Bazhell Banakson. David Weber is a masterful story teller. I have been reading for over 50 years and rarely have I found such compelling characters, such masterful world building, or such pure enjoyment in reading as I have experienced since I discovered Mr. Webers books.

Audiobook Flag in Exile by David Weber

this is the second time reading this book for me ,this is on kindel and the first time was in the 24$ hard back version with now way to review! if you are reading this review you are not needing any validation if you have started with the first in series( Basilisk station) and are dying to get on to the next book! (I bought them all in first issue hard back, because I couldn’t wait for paperback) if you are looking to see if it can be a stand alone, IT ISN’T, go to the aforementioned Basilisk station and start there ! David Weber has some of the best space battle scenes ever written and all his books have several, the characters are all well thought out and you either love or hate them! since I have read all the series and the anthologies the were spauned over ten years ago and am buying the electronic versions now , I am going to say none are less than 4 1/2 stars and it will be some of the best entertainment you will enjoy!!!! but from now on I am just going to give it stars and no review as I reread them as I want to include to many of the plots and ruin the story!!!

Audio Flag in Exile narrated by Allyson Johnson

I first learned about this series a few weeks ago when the lead character was voted best starship captain in a poll of sci fi readers. By the second book I knew why. Explanations of the competing human cultures described have incredible social and economic detail. The author offers precise explanations of the possible hardware and tactics of warfare in space. This is an amazingly coherent series with detailed and plausible stories development of character and tactics during a long war between an interstellar “people’s republic” and a smaller high tech feudal republic not unlike the better days of the UK.

This is the fifth book of a long series and in this one, the heroine is unjustly banished to the planet she saved in one of the earlier volumes. She arrives shattered from the end of Book 4 and several chapters describe her long emotional recovery. The story then picks up and the book ends with another stirring victory over the dastardly People’s Republic. All the same, this is a good book, just slower than the previous ones and i am now in the middle of Book 6.

The real problem is that although Harrington and her millieu are modeled on Captain Hornblower of the England of the Napoleonic Wars, the author is not C. S. Forester. This becomes painfully evident when he deals with non science fiction warfare and actions. Character development is essential for any novel, but it is difficult. It has to be credible, it takes a certain style, and it must not slow down the story for too long. Ideally, it is part of the story and emerges almost unnoticed, or at least never too obviously. This is definitely not the case in this book and hence the four stars.
