It was the virus in the tomatoes that decimated much of the human race, which led in turn to the Inlanders (the supernatural races) being outed. Now they co-exist with humans and like the mortals, some are good and others are very bad. Rachel, a witch, is one of the supernatural entities that try to do what is right even if she has demons marks from working with them and her souls is black scum. If she dies before it is removed, she will go straight to the place where the demons live. One morning the powerful demon Newt tries to possess her because he wants something she has. His keeper Minias comes to take him home but he needs Rachel\’s help. She gives it in return for him wearing her mark which means he has to do a favor for her when she asks for it. The FIB needs her help with the death of three werewolf women. Vampires and weres want the focus, a statue that changes humans into weres. Rachel has it but has no intention of giving it to either side because it would change the balance of power and alter civilization. The master vampire of the city is gunning for her as it was her testimony that put him in jail. When the demon Al flees to earth, he has a score to settle with Rachel and makes a deal with the elf Trent, a criminal mastermind. If she isn\’t careful, Rachel could be killed by any one of these beings or the two wolf packs who want the statue. Kim Harrison is one of the best writers of supernatural fantasy with great action-scenes and a fascinating heroine that has a heart of gold an even if her soul is a little dirty because she was forced to deal with demons. The support cast especially Ivy the living vampire, Junx the pixy, and Ceri the elf, add an extra dimension to the storyline as they watch Rachel\’s back and love her in spite of her stubborn nature. Slipping back into Kim Harrison\’s world of Rachel and her friends and foes is very comforting. It makes me wish that I could never leave it because once I start reading her books I feel lost and amazed, the real world forgotten and far away in my mind. Each new volume beckons me to indulge in another fantastic adventure where the fights, jokes, puns, some wicked magic and charismatic characters hold me in a trance until the last page is devoured. The fifth book of the series has been the book of changes, so much happens from when we last saw Rachel, her solid ground composed of Jenks, Ivy, Kisten, Ceri, David, Glenn and few others is unraveling in all directions. She is torn between her wild romance with Kisten and the lurking desires she\’s growing for Ivy, not sure whether she wants to be friends or more, debating with herself while fighting werewolves, pissed of demons, alluring vampires, tricky elfs, hilarious pixes and not so nice witches and all sorts of enigmatic creatures with agendas of their own. With power struggles happening between those at the top of the food chain, Rachel is caught in the middle with everything she holds dear at stake. I can\’t say any more, these books can be easily spoiled; something that I knew was going to happen did in deed happen and it didn\’t lessen the shock but it took something away form me. So for those who aren\’t up to this book, start from the beginning and don\’t go peaking at spoilers. The ending was so intense that I was torn between being afraid of reading through it and not wanting to see how the whole demon tangled up mess would resolve and unable to wait for the sixth book to arrive in the mail so I can rip the box open and pounce on it. Each character has been so lovingly written and so incredible real that any pain they went through I felt as well. Reading their stories and following their dreams, victories and fights always made me feel close to them, as if they were part of my own family. I am embarrassed to say but by page 444 tears were bubbling in my eyes, and I was a sobbing mess, I can\’t remember the last time a book made me cry! I can honestly say that this is my favorite series of all the books I have ever read, I can\’t imagine anything being warmer and filled with more glow, magic and real heart than this gem of a series. Utter perfection in my opinion and the more the better. – Kasia S.

Audiobook For a Few Demons More (The Hollows #5) by Kim Harrison

Plain and simple: I love this series. That\’s about all there is to it. I know I sound like a broken record, but I think you\’d be hard pressed to find something more entertaining and imaginative, at least in this genre. Harrison is a fabulous writer who\’s created some of the most heartfelt and entertaining characters I\’ve come across in a long time. This novel feels like everything has finally come to a head: Rachael\’s dealing with demon magic, she being the keeper of the much sought after were focus, her indecision as to what to do with Ivy..There is alot going on in this book, which is usual for a Hollows novel, but it\’s always cohesive and engaging. Weres are dying in the Hollows. Suicide or murder? They have one common link though, Rachael\’s alpha and friend David Hue. David also just happens to be the keeper of the were focus. Coincidence? Is it David who\’s killing his acquaintances or is something else going on that nobody knows about? These recent deaths bring the FIB into the fold as a result and when Rachael and her crew butt heads with Glenn and his crew, there\’s always going to be some good back and forth. Demons abound in this novel. Rachael gets an early morning wake up call by one of the more mentally disturbed residents from the other side of the ley lines. What\’s the demon looking for? Also, Big Al is back, but this time he\’s even more dangerous than ever. You see, he can now walk under the sun on our side of the ever after. Rachael thought she had the Big Al problem under control, but now he\’s more dangerous than ever. After a novel hiatus, Trent Kalamack is back in all his smug glory. Why? Well, he wants Rachael to work security at his wedding, and as a bridesmaid no less! Recipe for disaster? You bet. All that and we have more progression in the Rachael/Ivy/Kisten relationship. I have to say that if there\’s any one thing that I find a little wearisome in these novels it\’s the Rachael/Ivy dynamic. It\’s been taking up a lot of the past few novels and hasn\’t been progressing all that much. In fact, sometimes it seems like the same ground retread a little bit too frequently. Things DO move forward, but it\’s a common theme that to me is just getting a little stale. Deal breaker? No. The novels are so fun and engrossing that it\’s hardly a deal breaker. However, there is a MAJOR event in this book to one of the three in the quasi love triangle which will definitely change the gang\’s lives for a while to come I suspect. Don\’t worry, no spoilers 😉 Just another in a great series, which became one of my favorites one or two books in. I\’d recommend this even to those who aren\’t into the supernatural because they\’re just too much fun NOT to read!

Audio For a Few Demons More (The Hollows #5) narrated by Marguerite Gavin

I have not reviewed this series. There really should be a link to review the series as a whole but I am starting with this book because I have just wept buckets so I thought I should get that down before anyone decides to pick this book up in a public place. Most of the books have a slow part to them but you have to keep reading as the world and the characters get to be people you know and you need to find out what happens. A great series – I am so glad I have picked it up when it is finished so I dont have to wait for the next book.

… damn but Rachel is annoying. Kick ass heroine? More like whiney little…witch. She\’s impulsive, headstrong (but without the brains of an earth worm to back it up), charges off without thinking or listening to those more capable than herself. She uses people without thinking of anyone but herself, often putting them in danger as a result. She complains that Ivy cannot seperate sex and her blood needs. Yet Rachel cannot seperate sex and danger and her relationship with Ivy is more about satisfying her craving for danger than genuine feelings for a friend. All in all, if the author\’s aim was to create a central character who deserves a good slap, then she has succeeded. If her aim was to create a \”kick ass heroine\”, then fail. The only person\’s ass that gets kicked regularly is Rachel\’s (she must be on 1st name basis with the doctors at the ER by now) and without a host of supporting friends, she would have died before the end of the first book. Don\’t get me wrong, the books are well written and the storyline is engrossing, I just wish Rachel had been written as a stronger character. If she was male, I\’d want to yell at him to man up and grow a pair!!
