Forbidden Magic (Magic and Claws #1)

This was a pretty simple fantasy story. Kinda like Harry Potter meets Twilight meets 50 Shades of Grey. Being a big Star Wars / Marvel nerd myself, I totally dug the magic story. I guess my only complaint with this book was I really wanted to know more how the magic worked. In the Harry Potter universe, there seemed to be rules or technical details regarding magic. But all that\’s sorta glossed over in this story because the focus is solely on Leo and Zach\’s relationship. And that story doesn\’t disappoint. When I was a kid, my mom used to read all these Harlequin Romance novels. I used to make fun of her for doing that. But until I listened to this book, I guess I never knew what kind of erotic scenarios could come out of these books. Added to the fact that the narrator, BJ Whimpey, expertly draws the listener into each scene. Whether it\’s sexual or fantasical, the reader should have a great time listening to either.

I loved listening to this book on my commute. I was fully invested in the story line with lots of verbal reactions to the passion and intensity of the story. I found myself engaged in every chapter with a gripping curiosity of what was to happen next. The narrations by BJ Whimpey were absolutely phenomenal. He had a beautiful way of creating each character with a slight change of his voice. I didn’t even realize it was the same person for every character. It felt as though he was the character and knew their struggles and thoughts from just the sound of his voice. His voice was also just the right amount of sexy for Leo and I loved every second of it.

Overall I loved this series. The book is well written, and legit questions that popped in my head (thinking about the characters situations) as the book went on were answered~ I love the concept that Mage\’s live longer than wolves, and that it the characters face their problems instead of letting them linger. My only problems are that book 3 is not on audible yet (or even out as of this review), and that I wanted the book to last longer. Honestly, this series was a fun read and it the book moved at a great speed. The narration was great loved that I felt the emotions and thoughts of each character. Really pulled me in, like I was there in the book as the events were going on.

Great read! I loved everything about it and I can\’t wait to read the next book.

This book has subjects that I’ve never before looked into. Very well written. I learned a lot. Narration was perfect. Many voices. Well done all.
