Fulcrum of Light (Catalyst Book 2)

My love affair with Ryl may have started when I met him in the first book in this series, A Tribute at the Gate: Catalyst… but it just grows stronger, page by page, as Fulcrum of Light unspools it\’s secrets. The first thing that happens is that Ryl and his… what, Mercenary? Bodyguard? Friend? have to find their way out of the outlands, and time is not on their side! This is a grueling trek of endurance and fighting, and it was just the thing my action loving heart thrives on! It\’s only after they find succor that the pacing slows down, and we learn so much more about Ryl and his blood magic, as he begins his training for real! Soon after that, CJ Aaron pushes the \”pedal to the metal\” and zooms to an awesome finale! I know that I\’ve said this before, but Travis Baldree is absodamnlutely the perfect choice to tell us Ryl\’s story!!!

I enjoyed the first book in the series, but felt that the plot progression was slow. Fulcrum of Light definitely kicks it up a notch. I really enjoyed the pacing and story. Baldree does a fantastic job with narration. I look forward to the next installment.

Fulcrum of Light is a fun and fantastic continuation to the story started in Tribute at the Gates, picking up right where the original left off. The story continues to rise while still including more worldbuilding that reveals more, but not all, of the secret history that lead this world to present the situation. There are hints at deeper, darker truths to come about the origin of Ryl and the other Tributes powers. While Ryl attains a place of temporary safety in this portion of the story and continues to grow in power and as a person and leader, he faces very real and human challenges in addition to the monsters of the world. Ryl\’s story is not over yet, and I think the most interesting revelations are yet to come. Looking forward to the rest of this series and highly recommend it. Another great story in a line of great stories. Sci fi fans wont be disappointed.

Our two intrepid travellers are still alive, after their escape under the cover of the storm and darkness. Unfortunately, the storm did some damage, and they are alive, but without the supplies that was swept away in the storm. Ahead they have only the words \”Head to the mountains \” to guide them, across the Outlands. They have a limited time, until the poison starts to take effect, in Ryl, from the doses that he had been forced to endure. Plus, they share the Outlands, with the Horde, so it\’s a daunting journey , when healthy, less alone when one is delirious with fever. .
