Galaxy of War: Rise of a Legion is the first book of a new series and is also a premier book from a new author. I’m not usually huge of reading the first book ever from a new author. But a friend said it was a good book so I figured I’d give it a shot. What I found was a pleasant surprise. It takes place in 2111 and follows James Stone and his unit as he takes it upon himself to rid the universe of a monster ruler who needs to go! The characters are well written, the story line is new and overall a really good read. I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I did need to use the word bank at the back of the book to understand some of the verbiage but that’s okay. I was glad the author provided that to fill in some of the blanks!

Trey Deibel’s debut novel, a science fiction cum war novel does not disappoint. The characters come alive like moons in the dark sky, and their actions are memorable and likable. Set in a futuristic, intergalactic space of 2111, a war begins along the Milky Way and the interstellar species (the characters) have to find a sensible way to survive the war. Creating an entirely new world, populated by risk-taking characters embolden Trey Deibel’s ascension to the world of science fiction writers. Unlike any other fictitious world, the Alliance of Republic Worlds does not relent in frustrating the theocratic alliance of Wersillian Legion from turning itself into a colonizer. You will be introduced to James Stone, a gallant soldier who takes on the extra-terrestrial beings, and most especially, the galaxy of the warlords and comes out a victor. I like this action-packed novel; it really doesn’t disappoint!

Audiobook Galaxy at War: Rise of a Legion by Trey Deibel

The complex and epic story pulled me in quickly. The story immediately starts building the space adventure world before your eyes. I think that it was a good decision to put things like concept art, and the list of alien species at the beginning of the book was great. It helped me picture the world I was about to get thrown into and thus allowed the author to get into the politics of the book faster. The book takes place in 2111, almost a decade after the intergalactic war broke out. Due to this setup, the book is filled with nonstop action and danger that makes for a thrilling read. The characters of this book, particularly James Stone, are fascinating to watch as they maneuver through a war zone. The characters are well-developed and go through some interesting mental journeys that add a layer to the exciting book.

Audio Galaxy at War: Rise of a Legion narrated by Adam McGahee

Supernatural beings, a wide host of aliens, and a war fueled by religious differences. This novel is less than epic, and it’s all the more impressive because it’s Trey Deibel’s first novel. Most breakout authors would start small with a simpler world, with fewer themes. Not Trey. He built the galaxy that was in his head and took us along for the ride. If you’re into deep sci-fi and adventure novels and series, this one’s for you. The story moves quickly but always gives you enough detail and characterization to be immersive. And, as we would expect from such an expansive world and plot, the story continues in the next novel, so if you like this first one, the second one is already available for you to read.

Galaxy at War: Rise of a Legion takes you into a massive, galaxy-spanning war taking place in the year 2111. Trey Dreibel creates vivid characters and brings the interstellar world to life. We are following James Stone as he attempts to fight off the Wersillian Warlord that leads legions of soldiers poised to topple the current stability after the last war. James leads a team who fight for the Alliance of Republic Worlds to help stop the advancement of the extra-terrestrial colonizers trying to establish themselves in the Milky Way. The story the Dreibel weaves kept my attention with non-stop action and drama. And his concept art, in the beginning, is great and are helpful in visualizing the different species from early on. It’s a great read and can be finished during a long afternoon.
