Well it was no Maybe be you should talk to someone. Unfortunately. But I read it quickly. It kept my interest in a weird way. However. As a therapist, I kept thinking this is not real. No Dr. would actually treat their patients his way. Would they??? Malpractice? Ugh. Im sorry I bought and read it. Cant recommend. I gave it 3 stars because I value anyone who can write and publish. And I did finish it. Meh.

Ugh. So so disappointed in this book. Not only is this book harmful to people who may be struggling, glaring continuation errors somehow made it through editing and into Reese’s book club? Pg 222 she turns 34 with Brandon…then on page 259 she turns 34 again with John. This really bothered me. This book feels like a total money grab by the author and not sincere at all.

Audiobook Group: How One Therapist and a Circle of Strangers Saved My Life by Christie Tate
Im kind of surprised this book has gotten such high ratings. I enjoyed the writing style for the most part, and wanted to see how things ended, but really had to make myself plow through all the self-indulgent tantrums to get there. It was almost like driving past a train wreck …. I couldnt NOT look. It kind of felt like I was reading the script for a Lifetime movie. So, if thats your thing then definitely give this book a chance, but if youre not interested in reading about a thirty-something, narcissistic lawyer who throws toddler-like tantrums on the floor of her therapy sessions, Id say read something with a bit more depth. Plenty of memoirs out there that are worth the time.

Audio Group: How One Therapist and a Circle of Strangers Saved My Life narrated by Christie Tate
A powerful perspective of how group therapy changed a young woman’s life. The benefits, the commitment, the power of belonging.
Tate is driven. A high academic achiever. But she is floundering in life. Weighted down by a deep sadness, consumed with thoughts of death, and battling a life-long eating disorder. A friend connects her with a therapist who assures her that his dynamic of group therapy will transform her.
Reluctantly, she joins. What is this unorthodox method that the doctor employs? Truthfulness at all costs with every member of the group. Everything out in the open. Learning to trust perfect strangers. Finding new ways to cope. Not easy by any means. But what is going down in these sessions is miraculous. The determined group as a whole and individually will lift you up just as they seem to do for themselves and for Christie. It is mind-blowing. And her banter with the doctor is hilarious.
Christie bares all. As in, she does not hold anything back. While Dr. Rosens approach seems far-fetched at times, once you get to the end, you will rejoice in how far shes come.
GROUP is not a self-help book. It is a well-documented look at a woman who is honest, determined, and loving. She generously shares her warmth, humor, and most painful secrets. The author lets you in to her relationships and to her gradually developing bond with Dr. Rosen and circle of once strangers, now friends who aid in her transformation.

I made it 60% through before I abandoned. Only redeeming quality was the peek into group therapy. Nothing at all like Maybe You Should Talk To Someone.
