Appointment with Death

This is the most incredible psychological thriller I have ever read! (Fell in love with the Hercule Poirot tv series 25 years ago. Finally started reading Christie\’s novels in 2018. On her 19th Poirot mystery now in 2019!) So many characters under the control of one obsessed with absolute psychological torture. I adore the brilliant Belgian\’s factual logic, his divine faith in order and method. Hercule Poirot is the best character ever written! I truly wish Agatha Christie were alive and writing new novels today. Thank you so much my dear Miss Christie, your family, and your publishers for continuing to share your extraordinarh novels with in today\’s world.

This book is badly formatted, no differentiation as to who is speaking – conversations are run together so the reader has to sort out statement and response. When I ran into the note about missing pages that was the final straw. I returned and purchased the $9.99 version.

Verbal abuse or any abuse, was not often dealt with in the past and it would have been a unique plot line when Christie wrote the story. The mystery is interesting but the character study is really the key. Read it with eyes of the time not the present and it is indeed a shocking tale.

This is my favorite Poirot mystery. It starts out with a great opening line uttered by young man to his sister about how their stepmother must be killed. The book is divided into two parts, the first part is great and lets you get to know this family and learn what a horrible life they have because of the step mother. I think the characters and the pace of this novel make it one of her best mysteries.

\”You do see, don\’t you, that she\’s got to be killed?\” With this startling statement starts this great adventure, first published in 1938, which takes us on a ride that shows the reader the ugly and manipulative side of human nature. A psychological mystery from the Queen of Crime who shows us a yet another talent of hers. Her in depth knowledge of human nature. Appointment with Death is an excellent novel that provides a perfect atmosphere to study the psychology of human behavior. A book that will take you to the temples of Solomon and the ruins of Petra, provide you an adventure worth going on and with expertly sketched characters with many facets to their nature, it is not to be missed. Agatha Christie’s husband was an archaeologist and she accompanied him on digs in the Middle East a d assisted in his work, this additional field of interest shines through in quite a few of her works, definitely in this one !
