This is one of the best, if not the best, series of books I have ever read! Patrick O’Brian knew so much about the age of fighting sail in Great Britain, and he brings it to the written page, along with living, breathing characters. I feel as though I am there on the heaving deck fighting a storm as the green water pours over the deck and the crew clutch the ropes to avoid being washed overboard, or a hot frigate action as the guns roar and leap against their ropes and sailors and marines board the enemy ship to capture her. O’Brian is a masterful author; if you have never read him you don’t know what you are missing!

The Commodore audiobook in series Aubrey/Maturin
This is my second time through the 20-book series. It’s a frequent companion and an alternative train of thought that stays with me to fill the dull moments. O’Brian offers a singularly personable and detailed perspective of people and times in the Napoleonic Era of waning British imperialism. He must have used the navy logs for colloquial and logistical details. This is as close to time travel as I’ll get in my time.
Amazon’s delivery is wonderfully prompt and well-packaged. If you intend to read them all, then the best savings are clearly by getting the entire series in one buy. Beware that different Norton series cover art is offered at different times — what is offered now does not match the series images offered 18 months ago. WYSIWYG. You may have to hunt in other places to get matching cover art if the series is bought over a lengthy period.

The Commodore audiobook by Patrick O’Brian
Amazing author and series. Its a shame hes gone I dont have many more in the series left. This book overall felt a little rushed to wrap the story up. He didnt quite go into the level of detail he typically does in the exciting bits but Im looking forward to the next one.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves anyone who loves historical fiction based on actual history.
It’s wonderfully written in the language of the times…England of the 1800’s.
the contiuing tale of Captain Jack Aubrey and his constant friend Stephen Maturin.
I would tell people to start at book 1 and read all the books. Patrick O’Brian has the ability to make you set sail in a time machine and feel the salt spray and smell the grit of exploding gunpowder and chew your nails.
don’t miss this awesome adventure!
