Fascinating, insightful descriptions of ordinary, everyday events in the lives of an east coast family traveling to southwestern US….each with their own personal agenda. The “lost children” are the immigrant children trying to enter the United States along our southern border. The female protagonist has history of involvement with immigrant children in NY immigration system. Sense of heightened drama developing as couple road-trips to southwestern area.

I love when I read or audio read a book and I keep wondering how the characters are doing-always better than watching a movie because I get to have my own head ideas about it. I especially love how the characters weave together.

I loved this book – the storyline, the reading by the author and other readers, the sound effects. Without giving anything away, Ill just say that I felt like I was holding my breath for the last quarter or third of the book. The love and caring between the siblings was extremely powerful and beautifully written. Highly recommended!

Very difficult to get into the story. I am sticking with it but its hard going. If it were not part of the Big Read here in San Miguel de Allende, I wouldve put it down long ago. Im listening to the audiobook and have almost 1/2 of the book to go… its definitely not among my top 10!

This haunting book has stayed with me for months, and everyone I’ve told to read it has agreed. It’s a beautifully written and imagined tale of a family that is coming apart journeying toward the border where all of the families are being pulled apart. The children are magical, the dialogue perfect, the story amazing. I can’t recommend this book highly enough.
