Mr. Fixit (Irresistible Bachelors #5)

I have only ever left one other 1 star rating. And I dont know how Im reading the same book that everyone else raves about. Within the first five pages my face contorted into the first of many grimaces of what the heck and youve got to be kidding and no one ever talks or thinks like that even when they are in 8th grade. I felt my face freezinginto a perpetual WTH scrunch. The characters. Every single one of them are ludicrous, charcatures, flat, grating, annoying…The dialogue, and I use that term loosely, is beyond insipid. The 2 protagonists have such a total lack of personity, likeability and chemistry and are so immature there is no relationship. There cant be one…they never get past juvenile and really awkward sex talk. Thats the relationship highlight. Oh and the masturbation scenes…oh puhleaze! The plot device of the house renovation to throw the characters together so they can see each other and then go solo in their respective showers is just ridiculous. Even with a HEA the entire thing is just too gross to make me feel anything other than pleasure that its over. And let me assure you this is not because I object to sex on my romance. I dont. But I like a little romance in my romance. And I like my adult fiction written at more than a 2nd grade reading level. Oh…btw…I didnt like the book.

EEEEK! When this book hit my Kindle the world around me stopped, the book I was reading got put aside. You might think I am exaggerating here, but folks at this point I am completely invested in these characters, and as pitiful, as it probably sounds I get excited reading the stories Lauren Landish brings to life! Especially, Caleb and Cassie! When the two work on a house together, the sexual tensions are running high. Finally giving in, agreeing that FWB would be better than skirting around the issue. In the end, will that be enough for this sex deprived, emotional train wreck sarcastic, pair? This sexy, fabulously funny, adventurous pair\’s tale did not disappoint! In fact, I was sucked in by the emotional tug that wrapped up in their separate internal struggles, and waving the white flag at the amount of hotness these two can manage throughout this read! While I marveled in the complexity of the two- they still had their moments of fun, flirtatious banter and antics adding to the already amazing storyline- this was a book I read cover to digital cover in one sitting. No way was I getting anything else accomplished until I knew what Caleb and Cassie had accomplished! Once again, Lauren Landish has blown my expectations out of the water! I am as always looking forward to the next book!

I like other books by this author but the beginning few chapters were completely mundane and irrelevant. I found myself skipping so many parts throughout the book where it just seemed to go on and on about boring little details for pages at a time. Normally I like to read an entire book in one or two sittings but I kept getting so bored with this one that it took multiple sittings to finish. Almost half the book seemed to be way too many details about characters I assume were important in other books; it is normal to mention previous characters a few times but it was overkill here. It seemed like so much was filler detail to hit a word count. This could have either been a much shorter novel or it could have had an editor force the author to improve the boring parts. There were parts in the middle that were very well written though and had me in tears. Anything that emotionally powerful for me gets an extra star but without the few well written parts, this would have been only two stars. The emotional depth is there in the middle of the novel but lacking on the beginning and end.

We finally get Caleb & Cassie\’s story who we have met in the last book, Stud Muffin, by this talented author, and Lauren Landish once again doesn\’t disappoint by writing a story that will have you smiling, a few tears, and some laughs to go along the way. Cassie isn\’t that irritating assistant she was in the previous book, she\’s actually a beautiful, independent, smart woman who may play dumb sometimes but is far from it. These two have been at it for a year, teasing, playful flirting but most of all they have become good friends, hanging out, going for runs together and even double dating. When Cassie finds a house she wants to rebuild and Caleb being Mr. Fixit with his own company, lends her a hand. Now they are spending more time together and are looking at each other more than just friends, both are attracted to each other and come up with an agreement steamy buddies, no strings, no attachments, keep the friendship with steamy times. But along the way strong feelings do come into play, how will they handle it since both have major trust issues…..read and find out. OMG…I loved loved loved their story, their banter, flirting, friendship and the steamy scenes that made me wish it was winter so I could go outside and cool off. Lauren Landish writes a friends to lovers story that had my heart melting and my lips smiling from ear to ear w/o too much drama to get side tracked, just the right amount to keep my heart pounding. Once again this author makes it hard to chose who my favorite couple is from this series but Caleb and Cassie have just pulled ahead. Two people who were fixing up a house but in the meantime fix each other\’s hearts and trust issues….beautiful….amazing….heartwarming….perfect….10 ++++++ Even though I received an ARC of this book….I had had to buy it!!

Interesting read about friends and then friends with benefits. Funny in places then just a sexy little romance. Pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.
