The story could be better…I was totally into it until the author began referencing cities here in the US. I know this is fiction, but there’s no way any of the suspense scenes could have happened the way that they did. Throwing a woman out of a hotel room in downtown Austin? And no one noticed? Really? There is a lot to be said about researching your locales – researching your stories completely…because throwing BS into the story and making up things that will never, ever happen, takes your reader out of the story. I completed the story because I’d bought the book. The reviews are great and this author is a best-seller. Then I find out she’s not even located in the US? That smacks of crazy, really. Write what you know, please, Miss Wild. Stick with that. I could be a big fan if you were correct and told a story the right way (which means making sure you know your locations). Austin, Texas, and Atlanta, Georgia, are not the places you think that they are. Especially Austin. And, be sure that you know about luxury hotels. What you describe in Austin is NOT a luxury hotel…do you know the real luxury hotels in downtown Austin? Do your research, because you do have some talent as a writer. I hope this helps! It’s constructive criticism, and we all need it.

I loved this. As I start this read I wondered where this was going. Then quickly I realized their was so much more to the story. Jay was always in the dark as to why and what was happening. We as the reader were also kept in the dark but still we knew more than Jay. X is a product of his parents and his past. It so blew my mind that his childhood is what it was. I had a Oh Damn moment. Really it is unthinkable. X and Jay are so totally damaged and products of their parents. Both with parents who have money, both have horrid parents, yet both in totally different backgrounds. We get bits and pieces of X and Jay\’ s life from before yet it doesn\’t tell us what we need to pull the pieces together until the author is ready for us to know. It is truly brilliant. I love how it ended. It leaves us the choice kinda of how we want it to end. Yet at the same time finishing the story completely. NO CLIFFHANGER. Brilliant. I will say that this book is not for the faint of heart or squeamish. Take heed of the warning that is in the blurb as you read to see if this book is for you. I loved everything in here. Yes their is sex, yes their is violence, yes their non-consent to a point, but their is also discovery of one\’s self, love, and romance of a sort. Just because it is not the most conventional of romances that we all read doesn\’t mean it isn\’t romance. It is, it\’s just different and it suits this story and these characters. I will recommend this book to others. It is a great journey that X and Jay go threw, one I am glad I read.

Audiobook Mr. X (The Company #1) by Clarissa Wild

4.5 Stars What can I say but wow! Mr X is an intense and dark kind of read, as we get inside the mind of a killer. Although this is kind of a romance story, it takes you into some dark places that will have you gasping. The sex scenes are dark, mixing pleasure and pain, and you are wanting to unravel the story line and figure out the client. I was sucked in from the beginning, wanting to know more about how Mr X and Jay crossed paths to begin with and how they get through this situation. Jay is pretty laid back and does all sorts of naughty things to survive. She works as a stripper and does a little extra work on the side *wink*. She is into drugs and likes to pick up men. When a job goes bad, she is taken against her will and will do anything to survive. Mr X is as mysterious as you think he is. He is cold hearted and set on revenge. I liked getting to know him and learning all his secrets along the way. He has some dark fantasies and pushes Jay to the brink and I was often unsure whether I liked him or not, because he really frightened me! But the more secrets that I learnt, the more I realised that he was also a victim and did what he did to survive. I liked how closely Jay and Mr X\’s lives were entwined, although Jay couldn\’t remember. Don\’t go into this book and think it is going to be a sweet read, it is not. There are a lot of situations that may have you gasping. Mr X is very dominant and wants Jay to submit to him. He is into bondage and pain and pushes Jay to the edge. He wants her, but he is that dangerous you cannot be sure if he wants to kiss her or kill her. I enjoyed watching Mr X\’s plan unravel and saw his dark side. He tortured and killed people and being there was unbelievable. He is definitely a cold hearted killer and you could see the levels he would go to to protect what is his. Seeing Jay struggle with her emotions was interesting too. She had the feeling of knowing him before, but couldn\’t figure it out. I LOVED this story and thought that Clarissa did an amazing job sucking me into this dark world!!

Audio Mr. X (The Company #1) narrated by Paul Brion

This was a dark and twisted little tale which struggled to elicit empathy from me for the characters until the loose ends began tying up toward its conclusion. An earlier reviewer has compared it to Raw by Belle Aurora and I have to admit that, while I didn\’t note the similarities as I was reading it, after having these highlighted in the review I can understand the (less-than-favourable) comparison. Raw\’s hero, Twitch, wasn\’t particularly endearing; Mr X was even less so. If you like your heroes served with a large side of disdainful violence and little in the way of redeeming qualities, this might be your thing. For me, I found it was intriguing, but not particularly satisfying, principally because I didn\’t enjoy the characters or the world they lived in. Nevertheless, it was different and that, in itself, may be enough to make it stand out.

WOW OH WOW. A HOT SEXY DIRTY DARK ROMANCE STORY! He’s come to kill me. I’m a user and abuser of my own body. In my darkest hour I sold my soul to the devil and now I must pay the price. With his gun to my head I have no choice but to listen and obey, but I refuse to go down easily. Nothing is stronger than the will to survive. My instincts kicked into full gear the second he stepped into my motel room. Except when I look at him I see my own heart staring back at me. A history tainted by blood. I don’t know his name, but I know he wants me. To save myself I’ll sacrifice my sanity. My body. My soul. Something tells me the x-shaped scar that marks his eye is the only escape I have. He is Mr. X: the man who comes to claim my life. Can I save myself before he demands my heart? WARNING: This book contains very disturbing situations, dubious consent, breath deprivation, strong language, drugs and alcohol, and graphic violence. I loved this book. I got hooked from the start, and what a great way to start a book. My favourite character was MR X or Azazel which is his real name. I felt sorry for him because of his childhood, being brought up with s***ty parents then making your first kill at nine years old, obviously this had an effect on him throughout the rest of his life. But he loved Jay from the start and their parents wouldn\’t let them be together. Mr X is a broken sexy man, and I got attached to him from the start. I loved the characters in the book, they felt very real to me. Jay and Mr X are perfect for each other in every way. They are both scared of the feelings but Mr X mans up and admits his feelings to Jay. This story kept me guessing all the way through, because it being a dark romance novel, you never know what to expect from beginning to end. My favourite park of the book was the end when Jay is doing community service and she receives the letter from Mr X and he explains what he felt for her at the start and why he wanted revenge, then he gives her money from her father and gives her a choice in what she wants to do. Weather she wants to be with him or not. Then she finds out his real name. I am glad he come to his senses in the end and realised she needs to make that choice of wanting to be with him, not him forcing her to be with him and he can\’t force her love she has to give it willingly. I think the whole book was very well written and I loved every second of it. Everything was explained well so you got to picture exactly what was happening with each scene. This book was very emotional from the start, but I cried when Mr X shot himself and realised this was the only option to help Jay get free of her father. This was a amazing story for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good dark romance read. Rating 5/5 star rating. I hope you enjoyed my review. Happy reading! 😀 Jade!
