A thoroughly enjoyable tale! Jenna Jaxon has created a marvelously entertaining book series with The Widow’s Club–a group of women widowed by the battle of Waterloo. This is Georgie’s story, the spitfire redheaded lady of the group. Believing she’s had the sole ‘true love’ of her life, and finding herself in a position of near destitution, she’s reconciled herself to marrying the man of her father’s choosing. And her betrothed is a suitably disgusting excuse for a man. However, while traveling by carriage toward her ill-fated future, she finds herself, her maid, and her precious little dog, Lulu, kidnapped.

After she makes a harrowing escape, the fun begins. Her brother’s friend, who fancies himself a pirate, steps up to rescue his dear friend’s sister. She’s none-too-grateful for the help—at first. And he’s not all that crazy to be aiding her, but he knows it’s the right thing to do under the circumstances.

Their ‘courtship’ is fun to read. In the best Regency fashion, there are twists and turns, hijinks, moments when it looks as though all is lost, and also moments of triumph earned by wit and tenacity.

Jaxon gets the language right, the fashions right, and all the conventions of the day are correct.

The end is perfectly satisfying.

Five stars. It will sit on my bookshelf next to the other Widow’s Club books.

Hard to put the book down, always a new twist or turn. I have enjoyed reading the widow series. Can’t wait to read the last book.
