My 12yo daughter loves reading and she hated this book. She couldn’t stand how much social and political whining was in this book. I am a counselor and have to agree it is not for young girls. I was hoping it would be a book to show her how mental illness impacts young adults which it did but it was full of biased and political ideology. Orange man bad, Trump derangement syndrome kind of stuff. Too bad. I threw mine away, not even worth giving to goodwill.

I almost read this book in one stretch as I found it that mesmerizing. This young woman has gone through hell and back. She has given us such a gift of insight into this condition. I thought it was just about compulsions and no idea that it is more about the perceived repercussions of the thoughts. Well sone Allison for being so incredibly brave to expose your story. You are a true hero

Audiobook Obsessed: A Memoir of My Life with OCD by Allison Britz

I really enjoyed Obsessed! We follow Allison’s journey from her beginnings as a normal teenager (worrying about homework and prom) to a sudden onset and all-encompassing fear that everything causes cancer. Often OCD is associated with germaphobia or lists/obsessive order and this book helped me understand the breadth of manners OCD can take over someone’s life, not only those as typically stereotyped. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about OCD or just generally feel inspired!

Audio Obsessed: A Memoir of My Life with OCD narrated by Emily Ellet

I picked up this book to get a taste of life with OCD and I got it. A little more recovery and a little less relentless description of all the Triggers that took over the authors life would have made for a better story. However, it may not have stayed with me like this story is sure to do. It was an eye opener for someone who thought OCD was only about hand washing and Obsessive turning off lights and appliances.

This was a well written and informative book. I had no knowledge of this frightening illness and was surprised at the depth of the horrors Allison went through. Allison’s mother is a longtime friend and I could picture her walking through this journey.
