Myth: 3/5
Though this book was another adventure with some of my favorite characters, Id say that this book was my least favorite in the series.

After once again saving the underworld from a massive war, Cat & Bones find themselves trying to stop a ghost that has been killing for hundreds of years. While that does continue to explore the ghostly powers that Cat keeps borrowing, it’s a bit of a tangent from the rest of the underworld story lines.

And while it’s not a bad thing for a hero to do the right thing just because its right, it was a strange motivation, especially given all the pain that she and Bones have experienced in the last 5 books as they continue to risk their lives.

Magic: 3/5
The highlight is that Cat is able to keep figuring out her powers. She increases her bad-assness in every book. I did enjoy that after ghosts were lightly introduced in some of the books, they really do become a more central people of the underworld.

Overall: 3/5
I was entertained. The characters were still delightful and the romance steamy. And while it was a way to segue into more of the depths of ghosts and bring them more front and center in the underworld, it also felt like a divergence from the overall story arc of the characters. I almost think this should have been a short-story in the Night Huntress world than a full book in the series.

One Grave at a Time audiobook in series Night Huntress

I’m just going to come right out and say it- I didn’t care at all about the Kramer ghost plot line. He was a sub par, annoying, cliche villian. I thought that the Kramer storyline was just a sub plot that would be resolved in the first like 25% of the book and then we would move on to more interesting things….like helping Tate and the old team figure out what the heck was going on with the leadership of the unit. Instead that storyline lasted the entire book. To me it was just not an engaging plot line- maybe for the Winchester brothers in the show Supernatural but not for Cat and Bones.

Storyline aside- I still loved Cat and Bones. I wish Cat would feed from other vampires though- I think it would be interesting for her to experience other powers other than Bones. I’m hoping due to the voices issues that will be coming soon (since that wasn’t resolved in this book). I liked the faux breakup scene between them. I also liked the amount of trust they showed in each other and neither did anything TOO reckless so that was good.

VLAD? Where were you? Oh yea, this stupid ghost storyline was too beneath you and Merchenes to have to come help. I just couldn’t get excited about Fabian having such a main role. I wanted more Vlad and Ian to be honest. And so help me, Ian and Justina better not be a thing!!

Off to read the next book. I enjoyed reading this only because I love all the characters already. This was probably my least favorite story arc though- hate to say it but it felt like filler until we get to the good stuff.

Audiobook One Grave at a Time by Jeaniene Frost

I enjoyed this book 70% of the way through. It gave Fabian more if a story and that ghosts contribute more to the paranormal society than the background. Cat and Bones have heart, pleased how Cat had not initially dismissed Fabian when they first met, listening to him and truly understanding him, his lonliness…giving him a home. I enjoyed the main plot, good story although I did not like the end after the battle. Felt rushed and throw away and I was confused on what really happened in the prolonged which btw, did not get narrated on Audible version. It was 4 pages, so that should be corrected even though prologue was the the worst of all the books written so far. There was a lot of other story lines occurring and no resolution which is totally fine. I just wish the saga of Cat and Bones would continue beyond what is written in the series. All of the characters deserve their day in the sun but Cat and Bones are endearing and have endless possibilities.

**spoilers**I love that Fabian found his other half in Elisabeth and that she was fierce and strong.

Audio One Grave at a Time narrated by Tavia Gilbert

I had such a good time with this book. I first read this book almost 7 years ago and was pretty eager to revisit it. I didn’t remember a lot of the details from this book so it almost felt like I was reading for the first time. I thought that this was a really fun installment in the series even if it wasn’t one of my favorites. It was really great to spend a few hours with some of my favorite vampires.

This book picks up shortly after the events in the previous books. Of course, things will not stay calm for long for Cat and Bones. Cat learns through her ghostly friends that there is a very powerful ghost that is able to commit the same crimes he did during his life but only on Halloween night. They must work to protect his targets as he proves just how strong he really is.

My favorite thing about these books is the characters. It was great to spend time with Cat and Bones and I love the way they both continue to grow in every book. Their relationship is very strong and it is a lot of fun to watch them interact with each other. I do really enjoy the bigger cast of characters as well and it was great to see Spade, Denise, and Ian playing an important role in this book. I, of course, would have liked to see Vlad make an appearance but I guess I will just have to read his spin-off series to get more of him.

Tavia Gilbert does a phenomenal job with this series. She has been consistent with the character voices from the very beginning so everything just seems to flow easily. I think that she adds a lot to the story and is able to make everything more exciting at times. She has a very pleasant voice and reads the story at a perfect pace. Her narration only added to my enjoyment of this wonderful story.

I would recommend this book to others. This is a series that really does need to be read in order to be fully appreciated since many of the events and character relationships have been developing throughout the series. This was a fast-paced and exciting addition to a much-loved series. I cannot wait to continue my re-read of this series.

I enjoyed this a lot except for the ending which I thought was naff and didn’t fully tie bits off. It was nice to have a completely new story and there is obviously a big storyline coming out of this but no spoilers here. This is a 4.5 but I can’t give that so out of affection for this series I’ve put it as 5 star.
